I'm a "Video Production Specialist" for the City of Independence, Missouri. To give you an example of what I do, I shot a lot of video and did most of the editing on a package that's informing the public of our upcoming city charter amendment election. It will change the process by which property maintenance code violation notifications are processed.
6 1/2 minutes of video of trash, weeds, and a guy getting his property cleaned up -- all with stirring ballot language at the end. Wow.
Our next project: Making a video for Power and Light notifying the public of how they get power restored when there's an outage.
I'm in my last year of a General Studies BA. I dabble in various things but I can't keep interested for long enough to get anything accomplished. In the past while, I've made a number of beats to be used on a hip-hop tape, created various 'soundscapes' with the idea of using them as little interludes, written a half-working bootsector for my PC, created a few UI mockups, designed a prototype alphabet, written some poems, worked through the logic of a ripple carry adder... none of it is really good enough for anything though. I don't have a job either.
My occupation is so unimpressive compared to those listed here, I think I will just back out of this thread before I get into what happens when you have no ability to afford college.....or much else, for that matter.
Political-military specialist, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Embassy, New Delhi, India. At least as soon as my paperwork finishes processing in a couple of weeks. Prior to that I worked for eight years at a defense think tank in the D.C. area.
Usability Engineer or Human Factors Consultant.
I work at a publicly-traded financial software company. Odds are if you do online banking, you most likely have seen my work.

WebCT is cool, i just wish my profs. knew how to use it. The one class we do use it in, it is never updated

Phew. That makes you one of the few that realize a bad WebCT course is the profs. fault and not the software. The number of postings I've seen on the net flaming WebCT because the course notes for a class weren't up to date is beyond comprehension.
I work in a radiation oncology department as a medical physicist ... in training. Most of all I try not to **** up and try to catch other peoples' **** ups.
I'm finishing my degree in Physics. I want to pursue graduate studies in particle physics, and then do research in national/international research centers or in the private sector. Going to CERN of Fermilab would be a dream come true! Anyway I'll probably end up doing part time research and part time teaching in a university. Which is not bad at all!

I have two degrees in "soft" sciences: Cultural Anthropology and Political Science. Now, however, I find myself making money working as a Windows Systems Administrator full time and Mac/PC consultant part time. Go figure.
