For Apple, it's the only market that matters. When asked about it, Steve Jobs once said that Apple would never ship junk, as that is simply something that goes against what they believe in.
I happen to agree with that, and one of the reasons that I like and buy Apple products is because they don't make junk. Of course there's a market for junk out there, but those people who buy such stuff shouldn't expect any praise from me for their cheap and inferior products, as that goes against my philosophy.

From the Mac Mini, to the Macbook Air, or the MBP or an iMac or even a Mac Pro, though I'd wait a little bit with getting a Mac Pro, as those haven't been updated in quite a while, and it's best to wait until 2012 when the new ones come out.

I actually agree with you, as I find that Apple products are more affordable now than they've ever been. They sell their last two OS's for $29, they have a laptop for less than $1000. That was certainly not the case some years ago. And the iPad is a steal at $500. It's even way cheaper than that now since Apple has slashed their refurbished price just recently, if somebody is thrifty.
My children are young but I have a 4 year old that like to print out a picture of a doll. I have to be very sure that safesearch for google is on before I enter that in the image search engine. You don't have to be looking for porn to find it. As for people that say teach you kids. At 6 my son is perfectly capable to pay for one click stuff but not old enough to know what that really means. I don't have a tablet right now but If I buy one it will not be a kindle because of what is said here. Just like I wouldn't give my kid a credit card and say only use if you are in trouble. Teens and maybe even pre-teens can be taught this stuff but no children. They are not tall enough to look at the magazines on the top shelf. They are on the top shelf for a reason (parental control) My visa has a pin - again serves as perental control. We do have to teach are children - but not everything right away. They can be young for a while. Sometimes they might want to watch a movie in the back of the car. It would be great if there was a cheap tablet for it. But I would rather have rather pay more so I can choose what they are going to learn about not have everything exposed.

Yes, I agree it's a parent's responsibility. But it's also not their *fault necessarily* when the child does something wrong like the charging $5,000 example. And it's often how things are dealt with afterwards that makes the bigger difference and sets the path.

Absolutely. Things are so complicated these days, where a legit 10 year old's plaything has 10 layers of menus and is more complex than anything we had until we were 30 and we don't even want to try to get to bottom of it (though they have no problem navigating it) that we pass the buck a little too early. And what about those who won't swap it for the iPod Touch because the child's begging for the Fire? (Which is cheaper (and bigger) than the Touch, for cryin' out loud!! : ) )
I think Ms. Talty is off base on her blog post. Instead of expressing dismay at what she noticed on the Fire at the point that she did, she should have felt "Whoops. Didn't vet this one as well as I should have", and taken it from there. She seems to be taking herself out of the loop at bit too much, although to be fair we really can't tell from a few quotes taken out the context of her entire blog. She may have just been making an observation and not a complaining rant, which the headline veers us towards.
