I believe that this topic was not about me, but about ignorant, cheapskate parents who bought a cheap tablet, and now they're whining about how it gives their kids access to porn.

Kindle Fire + All other Android Devices

    = rushed to market solutions

    = second rate products

    Apple iDevices

= time consumingly deep thought about solutions

    = first rate products

Apple is probably solving solutions to next gen problems and issues for devices right now

In Cupertino, while all these other companies are sat around waiting for Apples next great ideas to copy.

I've actually always found ios' parental filtering to be pitiful as well. All or nothing? Is that the best they can do? They should partner with DNS filtering services to make it easy for parents to selectively filter the web on iOS devices. Would that be so hard? I'm sure the opendns' of the world would love to work with apple on something like that.

Install the Enterprise toll to get more granular control.

Thanks for proving my point. Apple needs to make this easier.

Wow... so if you're one of these pathetic parents too lazy to actually parent and instead opt for a digital babysitter then the iPad is the best choice. (Don't worry - just convince yourself you're helping them "get ahead" by spending your money on your children instead of your time)

    What a fantastic endorsement. \

It's a shame that this thread has gotten so cluttered up with comments by Android fans and people who don't have kids but think they're experts on parenting. Personally, I don't think much of the argument that parents didn't research this product well enough. Where exactly has Amazon made it clear that the default behavior would be for you to purchase whatever you want without needing to enter a password, or that there would be no way to set age restriction limits on movie streaming? IMO, the former is a no-brainer that everyone should reasonably assume that any non-fly-by-night company would do, and the latter is at least a reasonable expectation.

I purchased a Nook Color for my daughter a while back. I was shocked to find out that the default behavior was to allow for book and magazine purchases to be made without needing to re-enter your B&N store password. After using the iPhone and iPod Touch for a long while, I assumed that the Nook would handle this sort of thing the same way as Apple or, more correctly stated, would do what should be universally recognized as how it *ought* to operate (just as I would expect a new car I purchased would have a lock and not allow anyone to get into and start the car without a key). At least I was able to change that, but it sounds like the Fire won't let you require a password to be entered for every purchase. If true, that's completely stupid.

Best point of all 100+ posts. I didn't even think about that until you posted it- but you're exactly right. I could say "oh- the iPad is totally secure".... Except for thousands of webpages. Google "big nude boobs" and go to images.

Refreshing post jlandd. If parents want to just hand their kids any tablet... Go for it. That's your right as a parent. But if they use it not supervised- it's no ones fault but your own. Kids are well... Kids.

And no...I do not view ANYONE as a lesser being simply because they like iOS over whatever...hell iOSis the only other OS I'd use (and do use on my iPad) as far as I can tell and as far as I have touched.

    I'm here...because I enjoy it...and I do read articles too, I just don't comment on everything.

Mac OS news is important to me as I'm in for a new computer and I do not like what I see with Windows 8 and will probably buy an Apple computer.

The iPhone 4 could be had for 99.00, the 3Gs for nothing. I have the 4s and the price falls in line with just about every newly released Android phone I have seen.

Another AI tradition is most on this forum never use the products they bash. Kind of like making a comment about Windows when you have never used a Windows system.

Why does anyone even comment to this Apple ][ guy? It kind of defeats the purpose of me having him on ignore when people quote him about how dumb and unreasonable he is.

Yes- he has never used any product other than apple. Here is his next post- "apple is great, everything else sucks". Why respond to the drivel? He doesn't have kids, yet he posts in a thread about parental controls. He doesn't have a kindle, nor has he used one, but he posts more than anyone in every fire thread. He's a troll. Period. Search for the ignore feature, use it, let him talk to himself... He obviously thinks overly high of himself- with all his money he brags about (which all wealthy people do ), his "business he owns", and all his other "I'm better than you" posts. Im positive if you took a poll, the person who likes listening to his points the most is himself. Let it be so...

I've been working in computers practically since they first existed and I've never had a job where I had to use Windows. I've had jobs where I was forced to use DOS, but DOS was beautiful and fun before Windows came along.

The suggestion that in order to do "real work" you have to use Windows was never really true even back when everyone was spouting it as dogma. Nowadays, putting forward the idea that children will somehow be handicapped by not knowing about Windows is just ridiculous.

Parental Controls are easy enough. I wasn't suggesting that Enterprise profiles should be the new Parental Controls. That wouldn't make it easier. But if you are one that is tech savvy and what more control that is your solution.

People often quote me because I make a lot more interesting and relevant posts than the whiny and jealous sounding nonsense that you come up with.

Oops. You have me on ignore, you can't read this, but maybe somebody else will quote this post, and then you can see it.

I think that you should also ignore anybody who dares to quote me, and then that should solve at least a few of the many problems and issues that you suffer from.

Took you off ignore to see what brilliant response you would have to my post.

About what I expected. Pretending that people quote you because they find what you say "interesting". . Not the fact 80% of the responses to you are basically calling you an idiot.

    Back to ignore.

But for your viewing pleasure, here are the responses to your posts all bragging about how interesting and relevant you are.

Sorry to burst your bubble, mate, but I speak from experience. "I want a Blackberry, I hate texting on my iPod" (silence, then.…) "You WHAT???? You want , WHAT??" and I have to tell you - I lost the ensuing battle.

I do like Apple and Apple products. Why should this mean that I cannot like competitors' products as well? There is a thin line between being a fan of a product and not taking any criticism of it, and you are on the wrong side of it.
