Shot in the head, geez even the old-school guys aren't safe.
I hate it when people say "Walk This Way" was the first rap/rock track. Sure, it was the first with a rock BAND, but Run, DMC and Jay were ripping loud guitars over hip-hop beats way before that!

Why Jam Master Jay? I didn't care when rappers whose music I didn't like got shot. But this is just heartwrenching. I'll always remember Jay doing his unsurpassed scratch job at a Run DMC concert in a 100 person room during college. I was literally two feet away from him. That's the closest I've ever gotten to a musical god. Crazy to think that Run DMC were getting ready for a 20th anniversary album and tour...
Someone just ran up in the studio and shot him in the head? Even the old skool cats aint safe from that. I was watchin BET and they are gonna have tomorrow's top 10 countdown a tribute to him which is cool. They talked to a bunch of Djs on the show today. I heard they were just about to do a 20 year special album and tour.
Run DMC were true pioneers of hip-hop, and cats today owe a lot to them.

Funny, just today one of the high school girls I work with was giving me crap about getting old. She was like "We should call you sir!"
Out of absolutely nowhere I go "I'm the king of rock, there is none higher, sucka MC's should call me sire!"
Of course she looked at me like I was insane. I haven't heard that song in years either.
Every rock/rap band in the world owes him a debt.

The New York Times has a <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2002/10/31/nyregion/31RAP.html" target="_blank">good write-up</a> about last night's sad event.
