Dual 800 15 days build time...normal?

I desperately *need* a new Powermac, I'm a graphics 'pro' and left my upgrade until after Macworld assuming there would be an upgrade to the pro line....

With nothing announced, I was determined to wait until the end of the current display promotion to see what comes out, although I wasn't hopeful of anything before late Feb/March...however, I finally snapped today and headed over to the online Applestore in the UK to check out the dual 800 prices...

I went through the the whole order process to see what kind of 'ball park' price I would have to pay for a BTO dual.... all was fine until it said there would be a 15 day+ build time....I doubled checked this, and it said there was even a 15+ day build time for a standard not BTO dual machine...the build time for the cinema display was 1-3 days, and all other Powermacs were listed as 5 days...

I''ve bought a fair bit from the Applestore, but can't remeber a build time this long...in fact I was looking at the same spec last week and there was only an 5 day build time like all the others...the delay seems strange.

Assuming the 15 day build time is there at the end of the weekend (13th?), it would mean that the Powermac wouldn't be sorted out/dispatched until after the end of the 'crystal clear' promotion....

Does anyone know if this is the normal build time for a dual...or maybe it is the first to have the parts used up in time for a early Feb revision??

Just an observation,

Marc

Power Mac G4s are also not in large supply at the Apple Retail Stores near me. <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

Keep in mind that those are business days too, not just calendar days.

That puts delivery date at Jan 31 if you ordered today!

I'd say this is a pretty good indication of updated PowerMacs.

the G4 800 in the powermacs aren't the same as the ones for the imac, so it's not for using the G4s out of the dual 800 for the new iMacs ;-)

this leads us directly to believe there will be new powermacs soon. but they don't have to be G5 !!!

well, ok - me thinks it will be G5, but ... :-P

Also from the Belgian Apple Store there is a 15day wait for stock dual 800 and only 1-3day delay for 15inch TFT screens.

Also the stock 733Mhz G4 model is 15days.

There is definetly something going on... unless a global supply of G4s have gone missing

I will be waiting until the end of the month before ordering a G4 for a client. Lets see if I can make 'em hold off long enough.

UCLA is the school and you have to be a student there.

I could work something out with someone maybe. I was thinking of putting one up on eBay and making a little off of it.
