So if this goes on MS will be the first company that earns its money not by selling products or services but by ripping off other companies that violate their patents. A sort of legal patent troll. Maybe that has to happen first before patent laws will change.
I'm pretty sure every electronics company in existence violates at least 1 of Microsoft's patents...not hard to strong arm a smaller company into complying with Microsoft's wishes.
If they are violating Microsoft's patents its not strong arming, it's organizing payment for the use of a property that belongs to Microsoft, in the same way that Microsoft pay other companies for the use of patents in Microsoft products.

At least B&N shows no fear of Microsoft, outing their patent claims that had so far been kept secret. Yes, it's the same underhanded tactics they attempted to use against Linux IMO.
