Steve Jobs's widow attending tonight's US State of the Union address
Laurene Powell Jobs, widow of the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, will be in attendance as an official guest at tonight's State of the Union address by U.S. President Barack Obama.
Jobs will be a guest of First Lady Michelle Obama, the White House confirmed to MarketWatch. Her appearance has fueled speculation that Obama may mention Jobs in his address to the nation tonight.
Among numerous nonprofit activities, Jobs is the founder and chair of the Emerson Collective, which works with entrepreneurs to advance domestic and international social reform efforts. She also serves on the White House Council for Community Solutions.
Jobs is also president of the board at the after-school program College Track, which she founded in 1997. It helps to prepare underprivileged high school students for college.
She also serves on the boards of the directors of the New America Foundation, Teach for America, NewSchools Venture Fund, Stand for Children, and Conservation International.
Jobs met her husband of 20 years when she was a student at Stanford. The Apple co-founder delivered a speech at the Stanford graduate business school in 1989. They had three children together: Eve, Erin and Reed.

Last year, the late Jobs attended a dinner with Obama and other executives from Silicon Valley. Jobs also gave Obama a pre-release iPad 2 before the second-generation tablet went on sale to the public last year.
Obama even issued a public statement last October after Jobs passed away. The U.S. president said he and his wife Michelle were saddened by the loss.
"The world has lost a great visionary," Obama said. "And there may be no greater tribute to Steve's success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented."

I'm guessing it will concern the estate tax, she is on the hook for quite a bit of cash. So wrong that you are charged to die, not like they didn't take their cut when you earned it and when you spent it.
The key words in your comment are "when you earned it." Estate taxes are not taxing the person who "earned" the money at all. Growing up in a well to do household gives one many advantages, at some point, people should have to earn some of their own money instead of ghoulishly living off the bones of their parents or grandparents...
BTW, there is an exemption for spouses...

You're correct, but estate taxes are all about redistribution of wealth. That's communism and patently un-American.

I disagree with this sentiment entirely. First, you can't take it with you. So the tax really is on the person(s) acquiring money that they didn't earn, but is being given to him or her. Not on the party dying.
Second, the estate tax dates back to the times of barons like the Rockefellers. The worry rightful so was hoarding such wealth in a particular family would be a threat to the american way of life. The more money you have, the easier it is to make more. Eventually in time, your family can acquire all the countries wealth. Essentially certain families could bypass government and control the american way of life, turning us all into slaves. Allowing a few families to acquire all the wealth is dangerous.
Third, there are enough loopholes created by the wealthy to minimize the taxes. That is one of the reasons all the wealth was transferred to a trust not directly to people. Don't worry about Ms. Jobs she will be fine.
I guarantee Ms. Jobs is not there because of any Estate Tax announcements.

Exactly what I thought when I read that. There's no excuse for not just saying "Laurene Powell-Jobs".
And what is Obama even supposed to say about Jobs?

What can you say as a follow-up to that? "We're not going to allow Samsung imports anymore"? "We're creating an extra tax on Windows software for being the ORIGINAL copy and the reason the entire technology industry stagnated for two decades"?

Actually, you mean socialism. Regardless, you act like all principles of socialism are bad. If so, you really don't mean that. For instance, I bet you enjoy the public roads, public education, and maybe even some things like public parks and libraries. The reality is taxes (the redistribution of wealth) benefit everybody. Without such redistribution most of us would be begging for crumbs like they do in places like Egypt without any hope for betterment.
