"Mobile can be a symbol of who you are," Lee said. "A lot of people believe 'what I have in my hands is me.'"

A lot of people believe a lot of things. A lot of people are astoundingly shallow, terrifyingly ignorant, and spend the bulk of their time either watching the TV or shopping for the things it tells them to buy.

You're confirming the reality of Lee's quote by equating criticism of your electronics with criticism of your self.

Please? You are not your phone. I've never met you, but will still say with absolute confidence that you are infinitely more valuable, interesting, and beautiful than your phone, and that you are capable of being all that and more with no phone at all.

The problem with copying is that you don't actually understand what you are doing. The Apple vs PC worked so well because they made PCs look lame and Macs look cool. What Samsung is doing it trying to make iPhone OWNERS look lame. Now, I could look at a product and say, "you have a point, my product sucks and I ought to try that one that looks cool." But who is going to say "Wow, I am such a loser since they say losers own this product. I must switch so that I will stop being a loser."

Apparently the subtlety between pointing out a product's flaws and calling the owner of that product an idiot is lost on Samsung's marketing VP.

I'll have to say these ad really pissed me off. I wish Samsung parts weren't in my Apple products. I did make the decision that my household would be Samsung free from here on out. My wife was worried at Christmas because she bought me a new car stereo and didn't know if it was Samsung. Of course it wasn't, but I will not EVER buy a Samsung product and I am persuading anyone I have influence over to do the same.

It's about the user experience.

In Samsung's eagerness to get under the skin of Apple, their ad agency has lost the way of the message. To me, it's a waste of ad money.

Perfectly stated - the first time I saw one of these ads, I thought it was completely pointless as an advertisement. Apple fans will simply be insulted and that much less likely to look at Samsung products; at best, Android fans will smirk - but (given the absence of real content descriptions about Samsung products) be no more likely to buy Samsung than before. (Indeed, in a way this is the classic commercial that's memorable for being annoying, yet hard to remember what company *made* the ad!)

    Yeah, good luck with that.

This is Samsungs tactics of keeping those loyal people even more loyal due to your bickering and belittling.

What you people are doing is generating the buzz needed for Samsung and getting the word out.

It's quite obvious from the market figures that there are two major players I this field and Samsung intends to keep it that way.

Ah yes, Apple fanboys and Android spamalots bitching on Apple Insider is "generating buzz for Samsung". Right.

Let me know when there's a website called "Samsung Insider" that features dozens of ongoing discussions daily, then we'll talk "buzz".

These Asians, in general, are absolutely clueless and have never demonstrated an original idea.

Nobody on the planet will ever give one rat's ass about Samsung or what copies of other products they make.

    So for now, Apple leads.

But with a supply chain guru at Apple's helm, Apple's best days might be over. It's hard to imagine a supply chain expert suddenly becoming a visionary, creative genius of the likes of Steve Job.

Yes, 2012 is the beginning of the end for Apple remarkable run. In less than 2 years Samsung has surpassed Apple in mobile sales. Thats just one company. Add all the other Android manufacturers and the reality that fans here hide from shows how much a small market iOS really is.

Remember, Apple has to have less than 5% marketshare by the end of the year, otherwise you will be 'incredibly surprised'.

I hope you have some good material written up for January 1, 2013. If not, start writing now.

Apple Fans are everywhere.... I've never heard of a Samsung Fan.

Besides... Samsung phones run the same OS as many other manufacturer's phones. Doesn't that make them a commodity? What exactly is so special about Samsung phones compared to HTC, Motorola and LG?

Well, there is a place where all Samsung fans can go... it's called Appleinsider. There they can read what samsung will "introduce" in a couple of months...

    Playtime again?

Uh-huh, in sales* of "mobiles" (interesting choice of words, considering Apple doesn't make cheepo feature phones, only smartphones), you're right. Samsung also sold more microwaves than Apple this year, what's your point? That's like saying Samsung sold more 'things' than Apple. Not really a meaningful statement. How's this for a meaningful statement though: Apple made about three times as much profit ($) as Samsung in the past year.

*"sales" versus "shipments" to vendors is a whole 'nuther debate. Let's ask the 485 million $ RIM laid out if "shipments" is the same as "sales". Also, if it's the same, why not say "sales", like Apple does and avoid the confusion & bad press? :P

Define what the "end for Apple" is. Is that where they make more money every year then the year before? Is that that where they're the most valuable company on planet Earth? Is that where their products are so popular that even though they made more of them than Samsung made of their competing product, they still can't keep up with demand, and people are willing to wait in massive lines get a hold of them? Is that where they have the market cap equal to the other two biggest OS vendors in the world ... combined (MSFT+GOOG < AAPL)? Is that the "end" you're talking about? I gotta' tell ya' I want to "end" like that.

So yeah, that's a pretty telling indication that Apple is on the ropes - a stiff breeze and they might go belly-up.

Ignoring the whole financial side of it for now (since Apple is beating everyone else like a rented mule). Let's talk "marketshare":

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_s...ms#Web_clients

Interesting tidbit there, the share of iOS devices actually being used is 2-3 times the number of Android devices actually being used.

Bottom line, Samsung et al can sell 3 times the number of units that Apple sells, but Apple makes more profit on that fewer sales. Not only that, 2-3 iOS devices are actually used for each Android device in use.

It begs the question though, where do all those "sold" Android units go? Are retailers sitting on that much unsold stock? "Upgrades" from older Android devices? Defective-device replacements? Buy-one-get-one "sales" where one unit never actually gets used for anything other than a paper weight?

So, tell me slapppers, where's the evidence you're basing your "Apple is doomed!" predictions on?

Samsung is in a race to the bottom, along with the other Android manufacturers. Let them collectively take a majority share of the smart phone market.

Apple stands taller on its own. Apple will garner the vast majority of the profits, while maintaining levels of quality and support that the others have never matched and never will. Apple will continue to lead the market that it defined.

Apple on the other hand is talked about *regularly* by normal average people, and most often it is in praise. I have been sitting on a train listening to people talking about how much they love their iPhone. At restaurants, in the airport, at the office water cooler...

Last Friday on the Jason Ellis show (on Faction, SiriusXM) they had a guest on, a porn star named Joanna Angel. They were snapping pics with their phones, and she said something along the lines of "I hate my phone, it is a piece of s__t Android. I can't wait till I can throw it away and get an iPhone".

The folks on the Jason Ellis show and 95% of their listeners are as far away from the demographic of people who post in this forum as possible - and they talk about the iPhone and iPad several times a week on their popular radio show.

NEVER ONCE have I heard someone in a situation like that talk about a Samsung product.

Sorry Galbi, but you are just way way wrong. There are only a few tech companies that people will talk about in average every day conversation:

Apple, Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Twitter, and *maybe* Nintendo.

No one in the real world gives a crap about Samsung. They sell phones only because they make like 300 different smartphones and they are sold literally everywhere (many models given away free).

It is good to have competition for Apple, I encourage that because it is how things should be. But there is no way that Samsung develops a loyal fanbase. Simply cannot happen with their current business model.

Apple only makes a few products but they make those few products so insanely well that people are GLAD to pay money to buy them.

People love to make fun of Apple "fan boys" but I contend that the Apple "iCult" doesn't exist in a vacuum. Apple has to provide *something* that customers want or the affection for Apple wouldn't exist.

Are there Samsung fan websites dedicated with forums in the world?

    Absolutely. Google is your friend.

So your anecdotal personal experience is enough justification to declare, outright, that there are absolutely NO Samsung fans in this world. Since at least one fan exists (yours truly), your theory is shot.

Perhaps those millions of folks who purchase their devices (everything from phones, tablets, computers, memory, ssd, refrigerators, microwaves, televisions, home theater devices, etc) are an afterthought in your mind, eh?
