Holiday anger

Anyone notice an increase in pissed off angry assholes? I think it's the holiday stress.

Seems as though the highway is full of people that can't just relax and drive like a normal persons. 12 inches from my back bumper seems to be the new safe following distance. I get high beams flashed at me for driving in the middle lane at a constant speed

At lunch on Saturday a grandfather let into a grandkid that seemed to be doing nothing wrong. Then his daughter, kid's aunt, lets into her father for being a prick all day. Shortly after that she leaves. Poor kid sobbed through lunch and never ate a thing.

At the grocery store many people seemed to be scowling at each other. At the checkouts people couldn't tell who was in what line. Some people cut in and a guy with 12 items was in the 10 or less lane. It didn't get nasty but no one was happy.

Grumpy nasty stressed out. Great time of the year <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

I try to keep it  though.

Anyone else notice this?

Unfortunately, it seems to have become the norm all year here in the U.S.

I think you just tend to notice it more durng the holiday season, because it's so contradictory to the behavior that is generally associated with this time of year.

Try to have a happy holiday season yourself!!!

Its true . . the rise in stress generally is very palpable

I would attribute it to the times however . . . the economy, the news about an impending war that only arsholes feel we need and yet seems inevitable nonetheless, the economy, the general rise in mean-spiritedness, the fear of Islamist arseholes and their hatred of anything American, the economy . . . etc . . . just a general rise in the feeling of "life-is-suffering", nasty, brutish and short and covered in constant grey clouds, that I knew, well before Bush was voted in, would be the result of his winning . . . I even said as much on these boards . . . and voila! C'est vrais!

The outward manifestations of decent leadership reveal themselves in things like over-all mood, attitude and group comportment. . . just ask any coach or any teacher who has been doing it for a while . .

I talked to a co-worker that drove (droved?) the same highway I did last weekend and she had no trouble. Other than the left lane squaters. But they're there all the time.

Maybe I'm so  people just want to get close to me

Line-ups, traffic jams, noise, rush here, rush there...

As I see it, the holidays stomp all over my convenience, which is totally unacceptable since convenience is the only real reason to live in civilized society in the first place. I don't live in a city for the good of my health, I live here because I want what I want NOW, not after 45 minutes stuck in traffic, or 2 hours in line, or the umpteenth Christmas wish/salvation army/save the poor/give to the afflicted/donate clothes or whatever phone call brigade wants to hassle me today. I like the radio to play the music I want to listen to, Jack Frost, Rudolph, and Santa can lick my nads, as if radio wasn't bad enough already.

When a "holiday" comes, I want to relax, which just about never happens at Christmas time 'cause all the little pleasures and convenieces of normal life get replaced or obstructed by this mad consumer cult fighting to check off gifts and visits they otherwise never make. FVCK FVCK FVCK!!!

I just want to kick back, enjoy some time off, talk to some people I haven't seen in a while, eat too much, get plastered, have some drunken sex with the missus and recover just in time to go back tot he daily grind. That's a holiday. Most people are angry 'cause the holiday never materializes!

Couldn't agree more. I never drive anywhere at this time of year without a six pack in the passenger seat. Not only does the beer relax you as you weave through stationary traffic, but it dulls the jolt as you bump over pedestrians on the sidewalk. Also, the empties make great ammunition for the asshole that gets in your way. Nothing says 'screw you' like a beer can bouncing off the hood followed by a grin and a finger salute.

It doesn't help that every place is constantly playing all the dumb holiday songs you can imagine, and even worse, all the "jazzed-up" holiday songs performed by idiots who can't sing.

I dunno, but when I hear the same (bad) song for the billionth time I tend to get angry too.

I don't think all the terrible commercials (with their own infuriating jingles) are helping anyone either.

Mostly done with my shopping. I avoid malls this time of year like the plague.

The only annoying part about Christmas is having to stand in church. I like to go to midnight mass. It's amazing how packed my church is on Xmas. Get there too late and you don't sit. Get there early enough and I still don't sit. There's usually some harried mother standing, holding her baby and I'm uncomfortable taking up a seat in that kind of situation... Oh well, it's still a beautiful service.
