Anand has suspected that one way Apple looks to be besting the competition is to be using faster chips. I'd personally like to see faster storage than more of it (though ideally both, of course).

The Anobit technology should help with reliability. For speed, they can just go with dual chips in every model and put them in RAID 0, hugely increasing the overall read/write speeds. RAID 0 isn't great for reliability on an HDD but if anything, RAID 0 is probably better for NAND as it splits your writes evenly between chips. This cuts down time to turn an iPad on and application load/save times.

Unline hard drives NAND is already inherently paralel if the controller can keep up with the speed. RAID makes no sense with NAND chips, only when they are separated into separate devices like SSDs which is not the case with tablets where they are integrated.

Sony's SSD and Photofast drives use internal RAID0:

They'd have to do some kind of special configuration otherwise the two chip models would automatically be faster than the single chip models.

I look forward to the Anobit revelations when the time comes. I was researching SSDs and the price point for 320GB or so is still too high. Also, you have to hack OS X (a minor one) to enable TRIM support... Anyone using OWC SSDs? That looks to be the best reliability at that price point. Is this the case?

Makes sense. Why give the Applebots more than you have to when they are already bragging about selling their IP2s on ebay so they have cash to buy the new model? It's not like anybody else is going to top this and steal Apple's thunder.

Drip, drip, drip. Apple releases tech at the rate that maximizes profit, not consumer value. And as a rational capitalist, I cannot blame them!

Plus, the A6 will be even more awesome when they finally feel compelled to release it!

    This is just stupid. Fail.

    You really ARE special....

So you merged them but didn't notice he's insulting every single Apple user on the planet?
