What kind of parent would do this?
A story i saw on the news.
A few days ago a family were at the airport ready to fly to Spain for christmas. One of their kids, an 11 year old, didn't have his passport with him and so couldn't board the flight.
His mother put him in a taxi, gave him a front door key and told him to live on frozen pizza for a week.
He was found by a neighbour when he got home and the police were informed, who then had to tell the mother to come home from Spain for questioning.
The mother isn't being charged but she's had to come home and the boy is in care.
People who would do something like this don't deserve kids

I was crusin' Google's new localized search for Australia,

I was quite surprised by my first to site hits. One was called Raising Hell. About Parenting stories. Like one guy's girl who pooped in the tub and then pretended it didn't happen...
The second link was bad though (the other wasn't really.) It was full of jokes like the following (yeah, it was called dead baby jokes... these people are sick...)
Q: How do you make a baby float?

My, point, people are sick. But come on, cold pizza? That's the best kind... it's second only to cold KFC...
Or what about parents that don't let their children recieve proper medical care for religious reasons... or what about third world countries where they believe that having sex with a virgin will cure sexual diseases like AIDS??? We're talking about young women, maybe even children who are now going to die early, and in pain...
Cold Pizza? That's yummy. Can I get a slice?
(Now, if she forced them to use Windows, and didn't provide them a proper iBook, now that would be serious child abuse and neglect... And for that we would have not choice but to stone her dead in the streets while the rest of her family watches...)

I totally agree with you. What I do not understand is why people here are joking about this story.
If you happen to have children of your own, like I do, you would not be making fun of it. I hope.

I would never do it of course, but damn, I would have loved to have been given the house for a week!! Better than going to Spain with your parents if you ask me.
Anyway, I mean it's not evil or anything just irresponsible, hasn't he got friends or grandparents? okay then irresponsible and just plain stupid. But it's not nearly as bad as the family they were with, I think they just abandoned their daughter at the airport and ran off.

But at 11 they would need parental supervision to operate the oven
The three year old and one year old gang up to operate things like... the dishwasher, satellite tv box, television, gas oven (all the knobs are off for going on 2 years now), many calls on the telephone, garage door remotes, you name it.

At 11? Some kids maybe but this kids was scared out of his mind. And he was facing the prospect of being alone in his house over christmas. He was lucky to have attentive neighbours and relatives who lived close by.

Please...it's the new millenium. This kid has been latch-keying since he was 2. No one was likely ever home to watch him to begin with. Both the parents were likely out working and commuting from 2 hours away. He probably has been getting himself up, eating his cereal for breakfast (or at school), getting lunch at school, and popping hot pockets into the microwave for dinner for years now.
Oh I'm sorry...was I on my school teacher rant about why kids don't do their homework again??

I'm 6 years older than the wee lad and it had happened to me 3 times this year.
My dad took trips to Russia, Amsterdam and Japan, leaving me with a total of 4 weeks with the house to myself
at least i think that was their age , i need to ask my Mom again
