U.S. Partnership with the Middle East

[quote]to expand economic, political and educational opportunities for all.

I like the last two words of this quote as they tie in with my beliefs as represented in my signature.

However I must ask the following:

Are we (the U.S.) trying to "buy" friends? Also will this only create more hate towards the U.S.? Do you think just the opposite? That peace can be forged by such gestures? For me the jury is still out. I am trying to read between the lines with this. I do tend to find at the moment that this is nothing more than a "dancing over eggshells" act as to try not to break a fragile egg. After all why do we have to hand over this kind of money? Could it be the local governments of the middle east have us by the balls? Do we live in a world where we have to give money to tame the govenments in order to be able to buy oil?

What is next? Do we have to convert to Islam? as some in that part of the world have demanded (various terrorists)

Or is this simply an innocent program to help out the listed recipiants?

Your thoughts....

Not to change the subject to North Korea but I hope we do not enter a partnership with North Korea. Take a read at this:

[quote]At the height of the confrontation over North Korea?s plutonium-based program in 1994, a North Korean negotiator threatened to turn Seoul into ?a sea of fire.? Fearing war, residents of the South rushed to stores to stock up on food and other supplies.

This is not good for world security. The world must come together to stand against this.

This thread is to ask the question: Do we befriend questionable countries or do we put our foot down and say that wrong is wrong and the world will not stand for this.

I for one do not think hollow so-called "friendship" is the answer. I think the leaders of the free world must take a forceful stand against oppressive regimes.

    Your thoughts?

    I'll weigh in.

This is exactly the same as USAid: extend US cultural and economic reach by use of aid (not being conspiratorial, that's what the <a href="http://www.usaid.gov"; target="_blank">their website is all about).

It's not always a success. It's not always the best way to improve sentiment for the country. It's a lot more transparent to others then it may seem to people in Washington.

And by the way, North Korea isn't in the middle east.

But hey, we're all in favour of more educated women ... just depends on who choses the courses ...

I dun think Americans will ever convert to Islam. How many women will want to cover themselves from head to toe

Seriously speaking, US intervention in the middle east and the world is necessary. Becos it is the world largest economy and the strongest military power. Like it or not, every country must pay attention to wat it says. I jus hope the US wield this power correctly, or it will face backlash from all over the world.

Regarding North Korea, it is a perfect example that communism doesnt work. They are now desperate for attention. And we must pay attention, cos desperate people do desperate things.

What I wish we could see is the entire freedom loving world create a body if it is not the UN to firmly proclaim that such acts of breech of world security contracts will not be tolerated. I would hope other countries step up with a firm voice and work in concert with other freedom loving partners. I do not prefer for the US or the UK to be the sole leaders who speak out on such issues. The world must face these issues or one day we will live in a much darker world that is more chaotic and full of terror and violence. We need a stable free world so we can address the real problems we all face. Disease, Economics, Social problems. May God give us the grace and wisdom to find peace and good will towards all.
