[quote]Doesn't matter what they were asked. The dogs, by law (whether you know it or not) should have been restrained. The recommend method of transporting dogs according the SPCA is a dog cage.<hr></blockquote>
actually, i combed through the TN penal code for about 30 min. and couldn't find any reference at all to securing dogs while driving. do you have a link please?
actually, here's the entire TN penal code regarding dogs. you'll notice there isn't a single reference to restraining a dog within a vehicle. if you have a link that shows otherwise, i'd love to see it.
For those of you who think " It's just a dog. " Let's put things into perspective.
Most of you are intellegent enough to know there is probably intellegent life elsewhere in the universe.
What if there is a race out there that makes us look slow and unselfaware? Imagine if one of them shot a human over nothing. Imagine their response to be " Well they are cute and all but it's just a human. I mean it's not as if it's one of us. "
Is that concept ok?
Everything is a matter of perspective.
This moron took away a family friend ( in front of a child I might add ). This friend can't drive a car or design an bridge but was loyal and valuable never the less.
[QB]Anyone who attacks an armed cop for shooting his dog in cold blood is an idiot.[QB]<hr></blockquote>
Mark me an idiot then. I would have been hard pressed to let him walk away. You can bet your *** that I'd have my day in court too. The best lawyer money could buy...

I'm suprised the family acted as calmly as they did...and probably for good reason, I personally would have been scared shitless by this gun-toting madman. Yes, they were handcuffed and on their knees, but if some Jethro blew my dog away because he 'could', well, I hate to think of what I would do, and if I was in the place of the others in TN I might very well be shot dead as well.
I (and some others) probably feel most strongly about this because we have a strong relationship with our canines. To even think about my loved ones being dead, or killed, boils up unbelievable grief and horrible anger at the latter. My dogs are family members, more loyal than their simian equivalents at times, and we all have very keen attachments to them for whatever our personal needs or reasons are.
I've had dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, whatever. I've loved them all. But, only with a dog have I ever got the feeling I was really loved back. And that makes a difference.

ZZZAAAPP!!
No shots fired, just a plasma discharge, but I like it jimmac, I like it.
[edit: no dogs involved, right? Right. No dogs involved. Phew!]
I love all these tough guys saying that if they were handcuffed on their knees with a bunch of cops pointing shotguns at them they would fight the cops.

I don't think it's even a question of being a 'tough guy' or not. You're making it out to be simplistic, as if I had my balls wrapped around my neck ready for a fight on a whim. I was commenting on the emotional charge *some* people would feel if anyone took a life from someone you cared about, especially unprovoked (in question in this case, I know). Cops or no cops, I would be angry and angered, and humans act stupidly when they are angry. This I think we can agree upon. Whether you 'love' me for this or not doesn't matter, I'm simply talking about human nature.

so, now that it looks like they weren't breaking any laws, does that change your position regarding the officer's actions?

A million dollars for killing a DOG?</strong><hr></blockquote>
Yeah, that seems a little light.
How about some jailtime? Shooting a dog is just not acceptable, not in this circumstance at least.
