He's quick on his feet, huh?

"Yeah, I was doing...uh, research! Yeah, research...that's the ticket!".

Comforting himself after his bass player's untimely death, no doubt.

I think he's in the clear actually. He's been open about the topic in the past, he reported what he saw to a lawery/friend of his before the situation blew up, and he's reported to the authorities (although at this point I'm not sure if he did that before or after the story went public.)

I guess he's been an anti-child porn advocate for some time now, and there should be some proof at his web site.

Yea right. You ever meet those people who say, "I'm not a racist but those people ? blah blah blah".

Despite his alleged good works if he had it and paid for it, for whatever reason, he's guilty.

Did he download any images? If so, bang goes his research excuse- if he "just" wanted to dip into the bottomless pit of human depravity to see what it was like then he might be OK.

Mind you researching your autobiography is an odd concept-even allowing for years of mind-contracting substances.

what's it to you? is it your music? is it your property? is it your source of income?

Roger and Pete have been very open and vocal about their willingness to sell their music for ads....

Music is a business for them... their music is their product... if they are willing to think like that why is that you, who has nothing at all to do with it, can say its wrong?

    That's just dumb

    and yes, i believe pete.

If they find a stash of magazines in his attic, then I'd say he's probably guilty. But this guy's smart, he's technically saavy and a multi-millionaire. If he wanted child porn, he could fly to the Netherlands and back without any problem. Hell, he could fly to Thailand and have whatever he wanted.

He knows going to a site like that would be tracked. I'd say the chances of him being a peadophile are very slim.

From memory, the Netherlands was the first nation to legalise pornography in all forms. Then kiddie porn became a problem, and the laws were changed.

I saw something about this on CNN.com. I admit on first blush it sounds pretty bad. However, I recall the article had him talking about being sexually abused as a child also. He's talked about this before on several occasions, along with his bisexuality. On the album Tommy there's a song called Uncle Earnie that hints at sexual abuse of the album's title character.

I've always been a big fan of the Who. Not as big a fan as for Rush (see below), but one of my favorites nonetheless. I'm willing to believe him until something else comes up. Funny this should come along, wasn't there a very recent thing about Paul Reubens (aka Pee Wee Herman) and some other actor getting arrested for possesion of child porn? I recall his defense is that he collects "erotic art" and he didn't know he had some questionable pics in some of his coffee table books. Now, HE has already gotten busted for wacking off in a theater, so I don't know what to think of him.

(Favorite Pee Wee Herman joke from that first arrest: Hey, did you hear Pee Wee Herman died? From a massive stroke?)

I was going to post this news item and title the thread "The Kids are Alright", but my brain got the better of me...

Quick to judge aren't we? I think this will all be resolved. It was the rags in England that "broke" this story...fine examples of journalism that they are...
