Apple gearing up for 'major hiring campaign' at Israel R&D center
Apple is expected to begin the hiring process for dozens of new positions for its research and development center in Israel over the coming weeks.
The "major hiring campaign" by Apple will kick off in the next few weeks, according to Israel's Ynetnews. The new positions will work at Apple's R&D center in Haifa.
Apple began actively recruiting employees for its Israeli R&D operations in March, but the company is expected to kick its recruitment into high gear in the near future. The company is expected to rely on the assistance of a "headhunter" who will handle the hiring of "dozens of candidates simultaneously."
The new employees will join the roughly 200 personnel at Anobit, a flash memory company that Apple purchased in late 2011 for a rumored $490 million price. That strategic acquisition is expected to help Apple secure capacity of flash memory for devices like the iPhone, iPad, and MacBook lineup.
Apple's new hires will be located in Haifa's Scientific Industries Center, an international technology center known as Matam. Other companies with operations there include Google, Intel, IBM, Microsoft, and Yahoo.
Apple's development center is being run by Aharon Aharon, a veteran of Israel's technology industry. Monday's report said that he will be joined by Etai Zaltsman, who was previously the deputy CEO of Texas Instruments in Israel.
It was said that competition for the dozens of new Apple positions in Israel will be "tough." The project is Apple's first strategic development center located outside of the company's Cupertino, Calif., headquarters. Any activities outside of the company's campus have, to date, been related to marketing, sales and support.
Though Apple has publicly confirmed the acquisition of Anobit, the company has unsurprisingly said very little else about how it will use its expertise. Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook said in January that Anobit has "fantastic technical talent," and that he feels "fortunate to have them join us."

If any of them happen to be highly qualified, talented and also meet the criteria, then why not? The positions are for an Apple R&D center, not some assembly plant, where practically any bozo from off the streets can do the job. And thankfully, I don't believe that Apple engages in any discriminatory and unfair practices such as affirmative action, which leads to the employment of unqualified and poor workers. Apple is looking for the best people that they can get, obviously.
People with no skills or little skills are better off seeking jobs working for an Android vendor, as very little innovation is required there.
Might make sense to build the expensive bits underground though.
Makes sense. Apple does all the R&D for them. Worked well for Samsung.

They will not hire Palestinians that live in the occupied territories, as they are not allowed to work in Israel (except, in special cases, some day laborers that work in construction and similar things). Israeli Arabs, namely Palestinians with Israeli citizenship, can definitely work in Israel and I assume would be hired if have required credentials.

Actually this acquisition brings new secrets to Apple's party. Anobit figured out a way to make flash memory last longer than other flash memory. Apple is hoping to differentiate the iDevices with better flash memory than available on WinMo8 or Android devices.
I an also reflecting on Apple's astuteness in investing their profits wisely. In this case Apple got 100% of Anobit for 450 million, while Microsoft got like 17% of NEWCO for 300 million. Anobit is leading edge in R&D in an essential component for all portable devices going forward, while the fit for a non-Windows e-reader and Microsoft is tenuous at best. It makes Microsoft's purchase seem all the more like a wild grab for something...anything! At least it will help B&N stay alive longer.
Tim Cook seems to be going all out to transform Apple from the most loved to the most hated company in the world. Slave labour in China, tax avoidance on a grand scale, investing in apartheid Israel, not to mention all those who will be jealous of Apple's ever growing cash pile while so many people in the US and around the world are struggling with the recession, poverty, famine, etc.
So Apple don't have issues about working in a country practicing the equivalent of apartheid? Yet Greenpeace rants about Apple's (partial) dependence on coal...
