Bret Victor: Inventing on Principle
Gatorguy recently turned me onto a video of Bret Victor at CUSEC 212, a software development conference.
I'd never heard of the guy before watching it, but after having seen it, I doubt even I will forget him.
He has a vision for the future of computing that, I believe, is close to if not as powerful as Steve's original vision, and it's certainly of equal importance. The genius behind that for which he stands is that his single-mindedness is/will be the catalyst for tens of millions of others' ideas in all fields, not just computing itself.
Like Steve's became.
What's his vision? Watch.
I really think they should have given him much more free reign in his tenure at Apple. We could be using a version of Xcode right now that wipes the floor with absolutely every other coding platform on the planet.
Anyway, here's the video. All of it is good. All of it is relevant. To what? That's the discussion. Have fun.
Comments
Anyone with even the remotest interest in programming or UI's is missing out if they don't watch this. The very first viewer comment pretty well sums it up:
"Holy crap, that was a good talk. Thanks a lot."
