What's with all this god bless bull? Can't everyone see that the people that hate us for being infidels are only further riled up by the constant invocation of god by our leaders?

There is no difference between Bush saying god bless america and the terrorists saying praise allah.

Where did this rant come from?

Worshiping a God = terrorism? Bush = Bin Laden?

The President of the United States is not some kind of heartless machine who has to follow some kind of programmed instructions. He has the right to worship anything he wants (or nothing), as do you or I.

I feel that 7 brave heros are now with God, and made this desktop picture to help myself and others recover from this tragic loss. Did your insane rant help anyone in anyway?

Why is it that if I mention God that every sigle person who does not believe jumpsall over me, because of my own beliefs?

If anyone is full of heartless bull, it is you, BR.

    Amen to that

But really, why must god be brought up to anything and every man made stupidity? Is this some kind of justification to make it seem less of a f**k up? ... or make you feel better about having made a mistake? Like, hey, let's blame it on god, or bring god into to it so we don't feel as bad about it

    Gagggg

Edit: God made me do a typo.

Does President Bush Ram Jets into Skyscrapers? Does he run into a cafe and blow himself and others up? Does he mail anthrax to random people just to scare millions of people?

I don't think that any US politician (Republican or Democrat) has done anything that should be considered terrorism.

Did we want 9/11? Do we want another, even more devistating terrorist attack? Do you think that anyone wants war?

How much different would the world be if Saddam had nukes (or other very powerful WMDs) when he attacked Kuwait? What if he had them now and wanted to destablize the whole middle east?

This thread is very off topic right now. I just want the 7 people that died in the terrible Space Shuttle acident to be remembered and blessed.

    They are.

Mistakes happen. Responsibility needs to be assigned to those that are responsible and not to an entity that had nothing to do with it - God. That was my point. I'm sick of our leaders bring up God to defend man's mistakes. God bless this god bless that. Deal with, correct it and move on. Stop using religion as a shield to justify means. Our leaders have no business bring religion into the affairs of the nation. Religion has been the cause and justification for the most destructive wars in men's history. Look at the middle East for proof - constantly at war in the name of religion. Nations have been destroyed because it such blind faith. Our leaders actions should based on what's the greatest good for the greatest number. Religion is a personal thing, it does not belong in government. I distrust any leader who starts with, "God bless..." That's a sure sign of an hidden agenda.

    Very nice, iMacman.

I wouldn't mind seeing this thread devoted to images of the Shuttles in particular or spacecraft in general.

It's a sad nostalgia I feel seeing so many pictures of NASA stuff the last couple days. I was WAY into all of this as a child, (I'm 28) but over the years (to my regret now) I haven't given Astronauts much thought.

I never would have imagined the same Shuttle I built a model of in kindergarten would be flying these days.

Anyway, like I said, if it's cool with the mods, I think a thread of space-related images would be nice.

Don't you have a hidden agenda right now? Everyone has some kind of hidden agenda, if you think about it. President Bush believes in a just, forgiving, all knowing God, he is looking to him for healing. Most religions that i know of believe that God that has something to do with everything, thus God has a hidden agenda. President Bush is seeking help from what he believes to be the highest being of them all, why should we deny him that? The middle east has been a mess for all this time, not because of God is mentioned, but because of horrible people that murder the innocent and commit attacks in vein.

Truly, one of the most ignorant posts I have read in a long while. Very disappointing for someone who usually seems to post well thoughtout material.

Here is a site that has all the photos you could ever want of the space program: <a href="http://nix.nasa.gov/"; target="_blank">http://nix.nasa.gov/. Just do a search for whatever you want.

I agree. People can believe what they want, but if you are going to argue with someone, use logical reasoning and think about what you are saying first.

Please explain to me why I shouldn't be upset at a president constantly invoking god when the terrorists that want to kill us will only use that as further motivation to kill us infidels. You may disagree but there is sound logic behind what I say.

I don't know why this had to turn into a big argument.

I'm very sad for the people who died on the Columbia but seeing as how I do not believe in God, I would probably go into AppleWorks and get rid of the text there. On the other hand, I probably would get rid of any text there anyway, because I find text on my desktop picture somewhat annoying.

Just my opinion. If you don't like how it says God, don't use it. There are probably better pictures available anyway, perhaps less grainy or from a different angle if you'd prefer that (not to knock your picture, just saying...).

Your logic is flawed because you are basically stating that if we do not mention religion and/or anything related to terrorism the problem will ?magically? go away. Will they still want to kill us even if Bush does not mention God? If Bush were to say, "The poor people, they are just flying planes into buildings, and bombing innocent civilians, to get attention, we must understand" do you think that they will stop attacking us? Everything the US represents, freedom, is the enemy of every terrorist. Even so, Muslims believe in a God, after all President Bush is not directly mentioning Jesus Christ (even though Muslim people believe that Jesus was a prophet. Also, I truly do not mean to upset any Muslims, one of my best friends is a Muslim from the UAE, he taught me that Islam can be a very peaceful religion). Even so, no matter what President Bush says the terrorists will still hate us! That statement holds true no matter what religious affiliation the president has. The best way to rid the world of terrorism is to remove dictators supportive of terrorism, and plant the seeds of democracy. Either we remove the terrorists or they will try their best to remove freedom loving people.

Here is the flaw in your logic. I never once said that. I simply said that it didn't help. Do not take my words and twist them so I can fit your ridiculous profile of a godless bastard.

I have no problem with individuals having their own beliefs. However, I do have a problem when the person that represents the entire nation insists on invoking god every other sentence. I'm sorry, but that doesn't accurately represent 14% of the nation.

I agree, if you do not like the word 'God' in the picture just use another. I posted a link to the NASA picture search archives a few messages ago, use one of the thousands of pictures hosted their. Luca Rescigno is right, why did this have to turn into a big argument? I just wanted to celebrate the lives of the 7 lost in the accident, in my own little way. Obviously I responded to the tragedy in a different way that you (BR) did. Let?s stop talking about politics and religion for once and celebrate the lives of the crew of the space shuttle Columbia. What is controversial in celebrating the lives of fallen heroes? There are far more important things to worry about after all right?

First of all, I am not calling you a "godless bastard", nor do I have a "ridiculous profile" of you as one. I would never call someone that, I don't react with name calling.

So what would help rid of the terrorism problem then? This conversation sure is not helping.

The President can not represent all the views of every person in the US. I have several friends who are non religious. They stand up and recite the pledge, and most seem to like Bush and have no problem with people who are 'religious'. The word 'God' does not offend them, to them it is like saying "Unicorn", after all 'God' is an imagionary figure to them.

Anyways I have to get some sleep (it's 5:00AM here...). This thread has strayed far off topic, it was not ment to be a religious and political rant, but a celebration of the lives of 7 heroes.

Mods would you please close this thread.

It's probably safe to say that we all are upset at the loss of the Columbia Saturday.

However, this thread HAS gotten WAY off-topic. For those upset with the use of 'God' in the image, I would recommend that you simply not use it, or eliminate the words as one user suggested.

As an attempt to remain as neutral as possible in this argument, I'll offer the following words:

BR, we understand that you are generally upset with the use of 'God' in governmental statements and documents, however I would recommend that you find a better place to pick your fights. The fact of the matter is that a good majority of Americans (at least) DO have some sort of belief in God or Allah. It's printed on our currency. Therefore, whether you agree with it or not, stop denying that it's a widely acceptable presentation of God in government. And please stop picking fights in threads where those who DO believe in God might want to express their belief and sorrow.

imacman287, I'd say that next time, the best thing to do is not even respond to comments like that. You only fuel the fire of intolerance when you do that...and it IS intolerance to make bigoted comments about any religion, just as it would be about homosexuality, race, or gender.

Generally, I try to defend both sides of an argument as much as possible, but in this case, I don't see how it's fair to anyone to spark the discussion that BR did. I would only ask that everyone be more aware of others' feelings, and think before you possibly pick a fight in the wrong place.
