With the Razzie and Oscar nominations out, it's time to list actors/actresses who you feel is over and under-rated.

Personally I don't get the fuss over Ben Affleck. He's a lucky man being with JLo, but I don't particularly think he's a very good actor.

Under-rated...Philip Seymour Hoffman (Happiness)

For overrated I'd say Nicholson. I love to watch him work, but isn't he really always just playing Jack?

I think Cameron Diaz is underrated. I think her good looks (and some bad roles) overshadow some really good performances, Vanilla Sky comes to mind.

I used to like Cameron Diaz. Then I saw her on Letterman.

I prefer her when she's acting.

Julia roberts is definately overrated. I dunno why she can command such high appearance fees. Her shows ususally bore me to sleep.

Jeff</strong><hr></blockquote>Atr first I was going to say . . . 'what!??! Diaz?!' . . . but then I remembered her in Vanilla Sky, and that was such a powerful performance that I watched her car crash scene thee times in a row

(that part is better than the Spanish original VSky)

Malckovich is actually overrated . . . he literally can't act . . just watch his lips; they are always tight with self-consciousness, he can't express different characters, he has virtually no voice modulation . . . that's why he has been, rightly, typecast as the brooding villain type.... so when that pretty great film Being John Malcovich says he is an acter's actor I can't agree . . though I know he does have that rep.

    Male:

OVERrated: Jim Carrey...he's funny, but put him in a dramatic role and break out the barf bags. He looks so fake in those roles. Or I just start laughing.

underRATED: David Bowie? I still think that with the right roles he'd be a genius (what did you think I would mention...Mick Jagger?)

    Female:

OVERrated: Julia Roberts. Same old, same old in every role...yawn.

underRATED: Hillary Swank. She needs a better agent...maybe Julia Robert's?

    actor

overrated - ben affleck (although someday he should have a fine t.v. career.)

underrated - steve zahn (i say this with some trepidation as he's in a new movie with martin lawrence, that worries me, but man he just steals movies!)

    actress

overrated - jeneane garofolo (someone who seems to be sooo hip couldn't find a good script if it bit her on the ass!)

underrated - cameron diaz (thought of as a pretty face, but she's willing to do rolls where she's not pretty, and in her "commercial" movies does many things that a lot of actresses wouldn't do)

also watch out for jennifer garner, although "daredevil" is a piece of crap, she's great in it, and won't be on t.v. much longer.

    Howza'bout over/under-rated?

Val Kilmer. He's in Top Gun (crap) Batman, (more crap), has some weird hollywood cool guy thing going on, but seems to me as wooden as Ben Affleck, just not as dopey. I don't get it? Hollywood rightly forgets about him, then you go see "The Salton Sea" and you learn he can actually act. Confusing. I wonder how much the over-rated/underated mystique has to do simply with good script selection?

And yes, Ben Lo is possibly the worst actor making money today.

I really disagree, but I think we'll have to agree to disaagree.

    Overrated: Travolta

    Underrated: Buscemi

This guy has made a living off a few good roles. I think this was truer a couple years ago though.

oh, and one more thing........i'll tell you who's an absolute underrated genius. christopher guest, he's been killing me since the national lampoon radio hour and records back in the 70's.

he's very quiet and has no ego. "waiting for guffman", and "best in show" were tremendous (his new one <a href="http://amightywindonline.warnerbros.com/"; target="_blank">"a might wind"</a> comes out soon. he should be in the hall of fame for nigel tufnel (spinal tap) alone.

and....he gets to see jamie lee curtis naked......

I used to really rave about Kevin Spacey until I saw him in the biggest pile of crap since defecating became feasible, Ordinary Decent Criminal, playing a lovable roque bigamist bankrobber. Man he was bad. The director was in the U.K press recently bad- mouthing him for his 'look at me I'm a big star" off-screen behaviour which doesn't go down too well in Dublin. As the post title doesn't distingish between the living and the dead may I put forward Spencer Tracey as the most under-rated/ greatest ever screen actor, he still amazes me.

This disease has also affected many "legendary" actors.

    For example:

DeNiro (what's he doing with Eddie Murphy),

Al Pacino (to a lesser degree but The Recruit was pretty lame)

Dustin Hoffman (name one good movie he's done in the past 10 years)
