Valentine's Day

Just wondering what everyone was doing for Valenetine's day. I told my boyfriend that I didn't care but that we had to go to the bar sometime after 12. Other than that I don't know what we're doing.

I turn 21 on Saturday! Poor guy has a big weekend coming up. Haha

This seems like the kind of place that a bunch of anti-Valentine's day sentiment will rear up but please try to keep it to a minumum. Made-up holiday blah blah blah. I used to spout that but now I just think it's fun. Go celebrate love and don't whine (at least in this thread anyways).

My lover and I are going to get some Korean food (we loves the Bi Bim Bop!), then catch the Chihuli exhibit at the Gardens. Should be nice. I'm giving her a ticket to Cali for a 'girl's weekend' with her friends there. She'll be thrilled .

whoa that's a nice gift! the chihuli exhibit will be fun! i went to one in dayton, ohio and my favorite part was the glass tunnel. They had everyone lay on the floor and it was amazing to look up at everything.

i'm hoping that we go to a nice local restaurant called lui lui's but we'll see.

I will spend my 6th (that I'm sure of) Valentine's Day in a row single. I'm only 23.

I WAS going to go out with my female friend Melanie, but her sister invited Mel up to visit for the weekend (younger sister is at college 2 hours north of here)... Well, let's just say I need to figure out what to do with these two tickets to the movie "Chicago" tomorrow night.

And it's called "Singles Awareness Day," people. Get it right.

I got a card for the girlfriend. I'll buy her a candy bar if she's nice.

I'll probably throw together some spaghetti or something. Yes it's a holiday fabricated to make money for a corporation and thankfully my girlfriend doesn't give a crap about it.

Even better, she also dislikes diamonds for a similar reason. woohoo!

    penne a la vodka

bout 2/3rds clove garlic, finely diced.

    small onion, finely diced

sea salt, fresh cracked pepper (to taste)

    real sweet basil, finely chopped

    real oregano, chopped

    pint heavy cream

1-2 pounds plum tomatos, preferably run thru an italian tomato press (or you can blanch and peel them)

3/4 cup vodka (i recommend possibly maybe 1/4 cup of a flavored vodka, like citron for a kick)

    start with good olive oil....

saute onions for a good 6 minutes (med/low heat...do not brown)

add garlic, sautee another minute or so

    DO NOT BROWN THE GARLIC

    add tomato puree/sauce

    add spices

    add salt & pepper

    taste

    add vodka

    work it for 10 minutes

    add cream, stir

wait 10 minutes of more simmering

    put on penne

    garnish with parsley

    use excellent grated parmesian

    (shamelessly stolen)

funny you should mention that...just last night my eldest daughter went on a long car-ride rant of how diamonds are murder...bless her little liberal heart...my wife has never liked diamonds either, but for very different reasons....she is just way, and i mean WAY, too practical...there are other things that are so much more important than diamonds..."honey would you like a diamond necklace for your anniversary??" "who the hell are you and what did you do with my husband?? Hell NO...get me a hot tub instead." "sure 'nuff"

of course this valentines day will be done in hushed tones and bowed heads....and beers raised to remember granddad....we are irish, so expect a wake....g

Ummm, I'm taking the girls (wife and kids) to The Jungle Book.

    What can I say, I'm a romantic.

That does fit the definition of romance better than chocolates and roses and frilly, sparkly, or otherwise trivial things, I think. No sarcasm needed, which is not to say you're being sarcastic, just my sarcasm sensitivity antennea going spastic.

My gf has the same "no diamonds, furs, etc etc..." liberal thing going on, tied to a much too modern pragmatism, "there are better things to spend money on." It's funny, because I'm of the sort who couldn't possibly see anything as more luxurious than the skin of an animal, or the fruit of modern slave labour. I mean the third world has to do something with its time too.

We love each other, but one of these days I think she's going to kill me in my sleep.

I got my wife enough Mary kay to last at least 2 years. For the rest of the time, while she is not getting ready, we are just going to spend some home time together, since she may be leaving soon to go fight, or rather take care of those injured, in Iraq. <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[oyvey]" />

So we are going to make the most of the time we have together while we can.

This girl is coming over (started dating last wee) with another couple. I've got the table set up all pretty like and candles and the whole works. I'm going to make dinner chicken, pasta, salad, and a nice DQ cake for dessert. Then to my room where there will be a flower a card, and some candy on the pillow. Then to watch a movie. Pray for my cooking. : )
