Apple: We Have A Robust Product Release For The Year

Posted:
in Future Apple Hardware edited January 2014
Fred Anderson said "robust" which means, to my mind, lots of updated and new products. Demand for the new iMac will exceed supplies.

Didn´t he say something like "in the second half of the year"?

He said the March quarter would be transitions.

I like how they said that Power Mac sales were down due to the economy. How about a slow system bus, slow processors, too expensive and long in the tooth?

[quote]Risk of iMac "cannibalizing" Pro line: Each system still has significant architectural differences; dual processor option, level 3 cache, expandability, more memory capacity, etc. "When you put all that together, it's pretty significant." Says there's a chance that some pros might opt for iMac, but thinks that pros will stick with Power Macs.

    AAAARGHHHH! Wake Up!

Not sure what to make of the cannibalizing thing.

    Surely they aren't serious?

I don't believe that Pros are going to buy iMacs instead of PowerMacs... I believe they'll simply not buy anything until there's an update.

The bottom rung has been raised to high for it to still be a step ladder.

Yes but just after that I think he said that the big things would happen in second half.

"Well you know. Our pro model kind of sucks. Thats why it doesn´t sell. Oh yes: We can´t tell you when it will be replaced. Sorry"

Missed opertunity in selling lower cost Towers with slower processors to the consumer. I think categorized the tower to rigidly as a pro only model, and this is keeping potential converts from Windose from switching to Macs. Apple needs a "corssover" product for the consumer that does not have a monitor, and $1699 is too much for this purpose.

$1799 iMac 60GB Hard Drive 256 MB RAM Superdrive 100MHz bus 15" Screen 800MHz G4 Better Graphics card, better Superdrive

    $3499 Power Mac 80GB Hard Drive 256 MB RAM Superdrive 133MHz bus No Screen 800MHz G4 w/ L3 cache x2

$1700 more for a L3 cache, extra processor and 33MHz faster bus?

    Hey Steve-O...huh???

It is simply amazing, isn't it?

I refuse to believe we're not in for a major bump.

    They're just too close.

We are going to get what we want...We just have to sweat it out.Perhaps next week Apollo.Which I swear is for the Ti Book. But we will get amazing technology in the All "New G-5".Probably for sure in March MacWorld Tokyo. The desktop Pro's use the PowerMac for Print Shop, etc. They cannot affprd to play for more than three months.Plus,Dec. wasnt good for Apple.Add it all up....New Killer Machines to hold us until NeXT Year.So...

G-5 New Case/smaller tower/better ventilation, which they have been working on for two years,

Raycer Graphics Chip for Aqua,G-5 a Monster Chip,

    400 Mhz Bus /Front-side,DDR Ram,Rapid IO,Dual CPU's available,Hyper-Transport,Hyper-Threading

    Kernel in O/S-X,...What else???We order in March 21-23,2002 but system availability May,June,& July.Hah...Success at last.G-5{1.2 GHz,1.4 GHz, &

    1.6 Ghz.Plus, O/S -X 10.5 and PhotoShop Bake-OFF.

    Pixar / Renderman built-in O/S-X 10.3

In the past Apple would give at least 10 days notice for a Special Event meeting. It's needed to allow the press to make arrangements. So far, nothing has transpired to suggest that any Tower updates will be forthcoming until that happens. Unless they announce in the few days nothing will happen until next month. Seybold? When was the last time they used that conference to announce major new products?

    seybold sf 99 - Powermac G4 (400-500) replacing BW G3's.

    It could happen.

I think Seybold is too long to wait, the machines most likely will not ship in volume for at least a month or 6 weeks after the announcement.

To me Apple should keep improving there processors. If they want to keep up with intel they better start moving. As a owner of a computer company. Intel is coming out with a 3.5Ghz processor shortly. Apple needs to introduce their g-5 with 400MHZ bus and the works to out show Intel computers. We want to put those bad computers were they belong. In our dust.

Well, it does happen. Sometimes. OK, not very often. But sometimes.

\\will people ever believe that there is no G5 yet! Don't set your self up for disapointment. You have been giving too much credit to iodiotic speculation, and blatant fabrication. There will be no G5 till close to 2003 maybe even MWSF next year.

Unless there is a processor/semiconductor confrence that leads me to believe that motorola is already fabricating a 2GHz+ G5 in quantity I'll keep doubting it. When that semiconductor confrence comes around again this year all we'll probably hear is that motorola may have gotten a prototype to hit 2GHz, or so. That means very little at the most. Everybody has a prototype that hit 2GHz already. intel (those useless bastards) have brought one to market. That does not mean Apple will have one. This speed thing has sucked for us sence the G4 500. It's never going to be a GHz for GHz Apple vs Wintel with Apple computer having the upper hand because we have Altivec like we would all like it to be. It's like living in the Freaking Poor house the damn roof is caving in, and it's leaking more, and more every fvking day!

I'm getting pissed off just thinking about it, and I'm sitting behind a 867MHz G4 768MB RAM, and a Geforce 3.

And with all that I can still grasp onto reality.

    So what's your problem?

I was hoping he would say, "Yea the PowerMacs suck. we know"

    Powermac G5s before MWNY.

Now that the iMac has a G4, this is compelling evidence that the Powermacs will migrate to G5s. Maybe not the entire powermac line, but at least a few models.

To those saying the G5 doesn't exist, you're wrong. It's been under development since right after the original 7400 G4 shipped, meaning that Motorola has been working on the G5 for over two years.

I'm telling you all, the Apollo is a girly-man chip destined for laptops and consumer desktops. Think of it this way: when Apple migrates the Powermac line to G5s, and we all agree that this will eventually happen, the powermacs will be at speeds ranging from 1.0-1.4 GHz, worst case scenario. So what does Apple do, keep the iMac down at 700-800 MHz??? No way! iMacs are always clocked a bit lower than Powermacs, but not by that much. Optimally, Apple likes to clock the iMac about the same as the powermac, but use a different CPU.

So when the Powermacs go G5, the iMac and titanium will need something to run in the same ballpark as the G5. If Powermacs are at 1.2, 1.4, 1.6 GHz, then an Apollo iMac at 1.0, 1.113, and 1.266 GHz would be just the ticket.

Pessimists can howl and whine about the G5's non-existence all they want, but there is simply too much evidence to dismiss the G5. MOSR is NOT the only source of this evidence. I'm just waiting for AI to officially post a front-page story that claims inside info on new G4 powermacs. This will be the confirming evidence we need for the imminent release of G5 powermacs. Because we know that AI never has the scoop! G3 iMacs..HA! LOL!
