Ok, maybe it's cause I'm buzzing a little, but radiohead kicks so much ass it's not even funny. I'm watching "meeting people is easy" and I realize how much this band rocks. I know that there are some of us that thing "radiohead is boring" but I've got to disagree.... They are the best band.... ever (maybe). Disagree? Agree? Post your thoughts HERE.

They're one of those bands I know you could get because you have good taste in music.

Get ok computer, listen to it. Repeatedly. On some good headphones. Not an mp3 version, but the CD. (or some well-encoded mp3's ... I can hook you up if you want.)

Then get The Bends. Listen to it. Repeatedly. Good headphones are not as required for this one. Listen to "Street Spirit (fade out)" while walking if possible. Memorize "Fake Plastic Trees" and learn what real depression is.

Then move on to their more recent stuff. It just kicks ass. Believe me. If you don't like 'em, you just don't get it.

Chalk me up as another a guy who doesn't feel the appeal. I dug Creep, a song I believe they've basically disowned.

Is the rest of ok computer up to karma police's standard? Well, it's my second least favorite song on there, if that's any indication. "Let Down" (song #5) is one of the best songs I've ever heard. "Subterreanean Homesick Alien" is also absolutely great. Same goes for "Lucky". It's just a great CD.

I think you're right about them disowning creep. But only because the version that was so popular was the radio edit and not the real version. And that's a common thing with bands that don't "want" to be popular... throw off the tune that gains mass appeal. :/ Pablo Honey is their worst album (also their first). They get better with age, and you can see an evolution in their music. They're pushing the boundries of rock. Something I can't say for my other favorite band, pearl jam. And you've got to see them live.

Plus, their non-abashed mac users "i might be wrong" was made on their tour bus using FCP.

None. They've been associated with bands like Coldplay and Travis, but those bands are at least 7 years behind radiohead in terms of what they do. What you hear from those two is more comparable to the bends (which is a great CD for what it is: conventional acoustic/grunge rock).

BTW, <a href="http://www.apple.com/hotnews/articles/2001/07/radiohead/"; target="_blank">here's a link</a> to an Apple hot news story about radiohead. They're just cool.

I like Coldplay, some people call them Radiohead lite.

    Should I feel insulted?

No! Not at all. I like coldplay, too. But radiohead's better.

    -t

ps - coldplay's "a rush of blood to the head" is one of the better albums I've heard from human bands recently.

Hmmm, you're starting to make me think I should give them more of a chance. I'm not sure I'll go quite to the level of commitment you prescribe, though.

great cd. although i've never heard them compared to coldplay. coldplays got a much softer and more balladesque sound...

Who is comparable? Radiohead is my generations Pink Floyd.

Don't 'get' it? Then you probably weren't depressed when you heard it, and I don't mean this pussy pop 'depression'.

Radiohead. I wasn't into them mainly because the singer is a whiner...I hate whiners (ie Billy Corrigan and that asshole singer in Counting Crows).

Then came Kazza. I downloaded some of Radiohead's music and videos...and I like them. I wouldn't pay for a CD of theirs (I have enough great live/rare stuff already). But maybe when their new CD comes out I'll buy it.

They are an amazingly talented group. Their singer is tolerable (after seeing live footage...I get it).

    Comparisons?

    1. Pink Floyd

    2. The Cure

    3. Echo & The Bunnymen

    4. Teardrop Explodes

    5. REM

    6. Suicide

But they are very unique in songwriting and musicianship. Very penetrating.

Can someone mention any current American band that compares to them either? The Brits have what real "Pop" music is what it's all about since the '80s. REM only comes to mind.

I loves the Radiohead although I do prefer OK Computer to their last couple of albums.

Creep, and the rest of that album is inferior to their more recent work. However if you are in an angry mood and driving really fast and playing it ridiculously loud then Creep can be a good song.

A music-store friend turned me on to Pablo Honey when it first came out and I thought it was terrible. Really terrible. Then The Bends came out and I didn't give it much thought because I really didn't like 'Creep' that much (radio version anyway). Even when OK Computer came out I dismissed it, even with all the hype, because I just couldn't get that Pablo Honey taste out of my mind. The turning point for me was Kid A. My gf mentioned she wanted it, so, against my better judgement I bought it to add to the CD rotation. I liked it. I really, really liked it. In fact, I played it so much my gf got sick of it. So, I bought OK Computer (phenominal), Amnesiac (good), The Bends (better), and NOT Pablo Honey. Count me in as a Radiohead fan.

"Creep" can go away and never return so far as I care. Pablo Honey as a whole was a poor album and I disliked them until The Bends came out.

My favorite radiohead song ever is "Life In A Glass House" from Amnesiac.

radiohead is a lot like tool in that you can't listen to it expecting your typical radio rock song. Their sound isn't similar, but it's music that you need to pay a bit of attention to to get into. It's not a matter of "getting it", it's just a matter of giving it your full attention. Like "Eulogy" from tool... same deadl
