Hi  was having that problem too.  Here is what you do.  Sounds crazy but it works!

The first issue for a lot of people is that upon launching the app, there is an error message that does not allow you to connect to the Passbook-specific part of the App Store. Thanks to the Apple support forums, there is a fix for that. Follow the following steps:

    1. Go into Settings > General > Date and Time > Set Automatically. Turn that setting off.

    2. Set the date one year ahead

    3. Access Passbook again and go into the App Store from it. It should be working. Then you can go turn the "set automatically" setting back on in Date and Time.

It’s very confusing for sure. Here’s a link to fix the “Not Available”

I have to ask myself:  What is the question that this is this answers?   Seems like a futzy time consumer for little consequence.  Wish I could delete it from my phone.

Shameless self promotion: My app, MeNetwork (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/menetwork/id454521869?mt=8), integrates Passbook and doesn't cost a dime to install or use Passbook.

I ohpe companies start updating their apps to allow gift cards to be moved to passbook. I don't like how target says they support passbook but currently only for coupons.

It is kind of silly for something like Fandango.  Buy a ticket, send it over, go to movies, open Passbook, bye-bye ticket.  No one (pretty much) impulsively goes to a movie because they were nearby and happened to have already bought a ticket so why not just open the Fandango App?  (of course, since I don't buy tickets that way, I'm actually clueless if the Fandango App has that capability, but this is really an example for any single use event ticketing app).  BUT for something like a plane ticket that has changes happening minute by minute, or a gift card that you can then leave at home in a box, the automation AFTER manual loading is fantastic.

Sadly, this would be an issue because many legal issues would come with this. Companies could sue Apple for using their information or products without asking. Apple would not be able to ask every single company to use their information or products. If one company disallowed Apple from using their information or products, then Apple's passbook would be completely shot in this situation.

I don't think that apps are going to be the only way to go. I know of at least one company that is on the list to support it soon that has never had a "my gift cards" type of support for your account on the web or app even though they're big on ereward certificates, but it seems that all the ones that are currently offering ticket or gift card support have done this historically before apps ever existed. I think there will be some sort of redemption code option. Which is good because I get annoyed adding and deleting apps for one time use, I must have 100 apps in my iTunes account that I used once for something like this and deleted after.

I bought tickets last night through the Fandango app, but when going into purchased tickets, I didn't have an option to open in Passbook (yes, I do have iOS 6 with Passbook installed). Is it possible that the theater doesn't support Passbook scanning, so the option wasn't available?

I don't think it's possible not to be compatible, and I dont think they'd distinguish between that sort of thing. If the theater had NO scanners, maybe, but.

Another way to add passes without installing commercial apps is to create passes for your credit/debit cards via BillGuard http://passbook.billguard.com.

It will show you the balance as well as alert you to suspicious charges on your card. Updates daily. For free.

Not one of Apple's finest product releases - especially given the hype about these apps at the launch of iOS6. Too much of this sort of thing happening at Apple of late.

Passbook needs to get more companies on board to be a win-win. Many people would like to see drugstore chains like CVS, Riteaid etc added. Dunlin Donuts would be nice too, they already have an App but not in

    Passbook.
