Foxconn says production will resume Tuesday following employee riot
After a riot occurred in one of Foxconn's manufacturing facilities in China, the company issued a statement on Monday to say there were no employee deaths, and that production will resume on Tuesday.
The statement, provided to Roger Cheng of CNet on Monday, did not reveal the cause of the riot, which involved about 2,000 workers out of 79,000 at Foxconn's Taiyuan factory. Earlier reports stated that the dispute was between workers from different production lines.
"The cause of this dispute is under investigation by local authorities and we are working closely with them in this process, but it appears not to have been work-related," Foxconn's statement said.
About 40 people were said to have been taken to the hospital after the riot and no employees were killed, the company said. An undisclosed number of people were also arrested after the incident.
The factory was shut down after people were injured and equipment was damaged in the incident, but Foxconn apparently expects operations to continue quickly. The company is responsible for assembly of a number of Apple's popular products, including the iPhone and iPad.
Earlier this month, a Chinese reporter issued a report after he supposedly went undercover inside Foxconn's Taiyuan factory to experience the facility's working and living conditions first hand. he found that the plant was responsible for the fabrication of "uni-body" backplates used in Apple's latest iPhone 5.

And we don't even know if this plant had anything to do with Apple.
Wasn't this the plant that makes the backplates for the iPhone 5?

"Supposedly".
Good. No time to waste.
Shocking! They've got the priority right. I half expected them to report on production impacts prior to life. /s

No it doesn't. That's just what some journalist claims who supposedly went undercover. Maybe it's true, maybe it's a lie. The point is, there is no proof.
In the Reuters article yesterday, they said that automobile electronics and other various electronic parts were made there. Maybe some Apple parts are made there, but so far, there is zero evidence to show that this riot is in any way connected to anything Apple. And even if they did make some Apple parts there, there's nothing to suggest that the riot was because of anything work related.
People just like to riot. Look at all of the indoctrinated and dipshit Chinese people going insane and smashing all things Japanese because of some silly little Island.
Looks like mine made it out of the factory before the hoo-haa started. It should be here Friday.
Foxconn specifically said that it was NOT work related.

Yes, I did happen to read that also.
Yet, that hasn't stopped tons of media from reporting about "Riots at Apple factory!", which is completely 100% false.

Yours was produced pre-riot, when they were just chinking the iPhones at each other. :-)

Was going to take you heavily to task on this, but thought about it, and while I still think "like to" isn't the right formulation, there've been too many millions of riots throughout history to deny there's something in our nature that allows/encourages/stimulates/etc. rioting to break out at the drop of a... ...whatever....
China has been convulsed with riots all summer, including a July riot in Urumqi after which 10,000 people are said to have "disappeared". 80,000 people protesting and rioting around the Japanese embassy in Beijing, and thousands more all across China.
All of which elicits a collective "ZZZZZZ ..." in the US, until, OMG, 2,000 people riot at a Foxconn plant, that happens, among other things, to make one part of the new iPhone.
