Can MacOS X be deleted...

... from an iBook without affecting 9.x?

I installed X on the same partition as 9.1 and since I am getting a new iBook soon with X, I want to reclaim HD space on the old one and leave it running 9 only.

Is there an easy way to do it without having to reformat the hd?

Thanks.

Yes. Delete the following files & folders from the root (top level) of the hard drive:

    .Trashes

    .hidden

    .vol

    Applications

    Library

    Network

    System

    Trash

    Volumes

    automount

    bin

    cores

    dev

    etc

    mach

    mach.sym

    mach_kernel

    private

    sbin

    tmp

    usr

    var

Some of these may be invisible; so, you should use a freeware or shareware utility like <a href="http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=1892&db=mac"; target="_blank">Greg's Browser</a> to delete those.

No problem. I'm glad I could help.

By the way, the Volumes directory may not be there because I think that it is only created when mounting another disk. I could be wrong, though.
