  2. If you can't connect, how are you posting here? Different mac I am assuming. Can you call your ISP and ask them?

  I'm on my G3 (albeit using the IIci's monitor!) so luckily I can still get on here. I think the problem could be that my ISP needs some software for X. That's what my dad said and he will check it out tomorrow.
  
  
  
  Another problem. Using Sherlock I cant search for anything! WTF! it gives me an error. I think it says something about indexing the hard drive. how do I index the hard drive? I wanted to get to the Terminal so I could change the GUI but can't cause I can't find it.... hmmm......

  BTW this machine is fast. I thought the 933 in the store was a dual GHz seriously.

  indexing the hard drive is done automatically when you open Sherlock. It analyzes each file so that you can do the search by content which allows you to search for words within documents

  You have to select where you want to search..for example which partition/hard drive..just check where you want Sherlock to search.

  Umm I realize that that's exactly what I did. Hence the "I'm not an idiot I already did that stuff" part of my post. That's the point, I did that and it still gives that same message.

  As for indexing the hard drive, it states next to it "Cannot index".

  In OS X you can't index the entire volume, because (the OS assumes) that it isn't all yours. You can only index your home directory.

  You need to 'check off' the box next to the name of the Hard Drive(s) you want to search - in the sherlock window.
  
  
  
  As for the internet connection problem.
  
  
  
  Go to "network" system preference and make a new location. Make sure you've got Built In Ethernet selected, and try entering the settings again. Might help. I don't use DSL so I don't know for certain.
  
  
  
  Did you check Apple's support pages?
  
  
  
  Also, go to Mac Help in the finder, do a search for "setting up PPPoE". See if that helps.

  LOL...Unbelievable. I have said 5 times that I did this and the same message appears. Hmm, ya'd think maybe I actually was doing the right thing and the computer gave me that message, no? What do I look like a complete moron?
  
  
  
  As for your suggest re: my internet connection, I actually exactly what you said too last night night and it still did the same thing as before. I don't have DSL I'm stuck on 56k.

  first of all, NOT a good idea to be short with people who are helping you. whether their info helps or not, it's also free. so if you want a punching bag, go call 800-275-2273. I'm sure that purdy dual ghz still has lots of life on its warranty, after all.
  
  
  
  For your internet connection, the best thing to try is to reboot into OS 9. Then using the TCP/IP control panel (FreePPP is obsolete and no longer necessary), fill in all the information from your old system. See if you can connect properly in OS 9. If so, you've fallen victim to the one of the myriad dialup problems in OS X. See the Apple Support Discussions page for more information about this.
  
  
  
  As far as Sherlock goes, I think you should really call AppleCare about that. It's obvious that you're just not able to convey exactly the problem via this board; no one's able to understand you, anyway. Someone else already indicated to you why the whole drive can't be indexed. If you're doing everything right (checking the box next to what you want to search, typing in a valid query, clicking the "File Names" radio button), etc., then AppleCare will be your best bet.

  I would just reformat the hard drive and start from scratch and install a fresh copy 10.1.2. It's a new machine so it's not like it matters.
