every time i start up or wake my imac G4 from sleep, the macintosh HD icon is always in a different spot. the other icons stay put. anyone know why? it just started doing this about a week ago.
no explanation for why it's happening but I do have a solution: go into finder prefs and uncheck all the items that are to be shown on the desktop. Make new finder windows open to your home directory in column view and use your desktop solely to display pretty pictures.

no idea, but you could try to trash the finder prefs...
they are located in home folder/libary/preferences/
and are called com.apple.finder.prefs
trash and restart two times
