I have that problem too, but it burns at 12x, not 8x.

    oh, sorry! i fogot to mention its a Ti550. kinda sucks. i was planning on selling it to a friend who was all interested in it. he was supposed to look at it and decide on one day and guess what....i wake up , go to maccentral and see in bold " new powerbooks announced. 667 , 800"

    motherf**ker!

    oh well. guess i should have done it sooner!

    I'm assuming that :

    32x=Write

    10x=Rewrite

    40x=Read

    If that is the case, CDRW will only write at 10x. Why 8x? Maybe check your preferences for corrections..

    I have a 12x sony firewire CDR and it will only burn at 4x. I have tried setting the burn speed to max and 12x but it still burns at 4x. If you visit the apple discussion forums, many, many people are having the problem of itunes burning much slower than the drive is rated for.

    Not sure if this is the reason, and I will say that I'm no tech guy, but... A few years back I purchased a 8x4x12 CD burner. At the time my Mac was a Performa 6360. The CD burner would only burn at 2x and to get it to work I had to increase the buffer size to 10megs, I think. A few months later I purchased a G4 350 PowerMac. I plug in the CD burner to the G4 and wallah, with the G4 the CD burner was cooking the CD at 8x. My take on this... CPU power is the reason you can't burn faster. But I'm only guessing...

    This is just another example of why I use Toast. Today I tried and it was only 8x, not the 12x like before on my 24x burner.
