Pro Keyboard eject function on an older keyboard...

I have a flat screen new iMac. I want to use my old 'short' iMac keyboard (from back in the bondi blue days) instead. How would I eject the cd without the cd-eject button? Can an applescript be writen to do it from an F-Key? Help anyone? Thx in advance.



PS, Never mind WHY I want to do this, I just do.

    Try F15 -- I seem to recall that it acts as the eject key when you don't have a real eject key.

    I could see why someone would want a shorter keyboard. If you like using the keyboard on your lap, and you don't want to have 1/4 of it hanging over on the right side, a shorter keyboard is nice. I know I've wished for a standard (non-extended) keyboard on my SE quite a few times. But, then again, an SE is much more useless than an old USB keyboard...

    I am pretty sure command+E works as well...Although the object you want to eject may need to be highlighted or in use.

    Did the little keyboards even have F15? I thought they only went up to F12?



    Try F12... that's the eject button on the iBook and TiBook and if I recall right, at least earlier in 10.1.x it ejected on all computers.

    Ah.. but what if there is no cd in the drive to eject and I simply want to open it?

    You are correct. It only goes to F12, and I'll give it a try tommorrow. Thx.

    Well, you could always alter your UNIX keymappings, if anybody can figure out how. I know it's possible, but I've never really given it a shot (haven't needed to). A cursory check didn't turn up any friendly GUI tools, so it may just be you and your console for this one. Hopefully, F12 will work on its own... Good luck!

    OS 9 has a utility app/control strip mod called "Eject". It's in the Utilities or Apple Extras Folder in a folder called "Eject Extras" I think. It's also on the newer OS 9 CDs somewhere too. I use Keyboard Function hot keys to bind the eject app to my F12 key in the Keyboard Control Panel.



    You can't write a Finder AppleScript to eject in the Finder on its own. I have tried!
