, the price would almost certainly have to be much less than what they currently get in the cable world. They might gain some streaming customers, but they'd also lose a lot of cable customers IMO.
Or not. They could charge $30 a month for direct subscription, but via cable it's only $20.
Folks would still pay cause they are still up like $60 in cable fees if they are cord cutters.
also if you have multiple cable box (of which your are renting monthly from the cable cabals) then you could feasibly save that monthly box rental by purchasing an APPLE TV box and streaming your HBO GO content to your other rooms and save that extra monthly $15 for each cable box rental and you could also do what i did and purchase the ELGATO EYE TV box $179. and a with a Mac connected to it you can also not have to pay the cable cabals the monthly $15 for the DVR capability and record ALL you content to your mac and view it from ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD where you have a WIFI connection to your iphone or iPAD IOS devices and even watch LIVE TV from your cable box and program content to record when you are away from home- you have to learn how to BEAT THESE THIEVES AT THEIR OWN GAME I SAY!!!.in a 5 years span i will have SAVED $1800. from paying these fees to TIME WARNER CABAL and only need to invest $299. for my apple TV and my EYE TV devices...
Just about every show that's been on HBO is on HBO GO. Wanna watch all the episodes of The Sopranos? You won't find it on VOD but it's on HBO GO. A short lived but funny C K Louis sitcom is on there that I've never seen on VOD. There's just TONS more content.
Edit: Because Apple ][ used The Wire I changed mine to The Sopranos.
The Wire > Sopranos. Just stick with The Wire.
small plug- if anyone hasn't seen it... You're robbing yourself
Thanks Apple ][ and dasaman69 for the info. It would be nice to watch Boardwalk Empire all the way through. I got hooked watching it while staying at hotels when traveling. Saw the Sopranos but never watched The Wire though. It has to be better than True Blood though.

Ya- true blood is awful. The Wire is my favorite show of all time. I watch breaking bad, game of thrones, and mad men also. didnt really care for boardwalk. Like any show- give it a solid 4 episodes before making an opinion. But report back.

Boardwalk Empire is excellent IMO, you should also be watching the Walking Dead and Sons of Anarchy.
I have a vacation place with an ATV but no cable. I enjoy being able to watch HBO while there and was excited by the possibility of using Airplay from my iPad. However, when I tried it last night I go about 40 minutes into Game of Thrones when I lost internet connection from my 1st gen. Airport Extreme. I thought it was my modem but it turned out to be the Airport since I couldn't contact it via Airport Utility. The status light on the Extreme continued to glow green. I had to restart the Extreme to get it to work again. The same thing happened during the next episode at about the same time mark. At least with this setup the iPad and ATV WiFi I/O seemed to overwhelm the Extreme.
"My bet is that iOS versions of HBO GO are far more compressed than VOD"
It's possible but not likely. Until it failed (Airport Extreme problem, see previous post) iPad stream over Air Play looked and sounded great (5.1 surround and all).

Me too- for sure. But beggars can't be choosers- this makes me very happy

That's nice I guess. I find HBO shows work quite well with an app called TVshows (http://tvshowsapp.com).

Bring on the ATV HBOgo app.
