Whenever I try to watch videos using streaming WMP at edmunds.com or cnet (or any website for that matter), it just won't work. I keep getting an error message. What's going on? It used to work fine....

Did you download an update for IE recently, or have you installed an OS update or anything? What's the error message you're getting? Do you get an error message for saved WMP files, or is it just the streaming WMP's that won't play?

Ok I tried it with Cnet and it worked! Then I went onto edmunds.com and when I click on Windows Media Player (220K DSL/T-1/Cable) and wait for it to load up it says "Cannot open the file. Verify that the path and filename are correct and try again." Every single one of the videos says this. I'm thinking it must be the website now.

P.S.- I would use something else but the only other option is RealPlayer. <img src="graemlins/surprised.gif" border="0" alt="[Surprised]" /> :o If only Windows Media Player worked in OmniWeb. And if only they had Real Player for OS X. It's impossible to run it in Classic.

I stopped using real and WMP last year. Now I only bother with Quicktime or Flash content. I'm quite happy now. I don't have these stupid windows popping up all the time saying "do you want me to be your default blah-blah player?" and I don't really find I miss much by limiting myself in this way. OK, so I missed the World Cup coverage, but that's okay, I had some sleeping pills instead! Yawn...
