The Windows Media Player Installer

I'm having trouble with the installer for the WMP for OS X. I have a new, almost completely clean install of OS X 10.1.4 on a new iBook. My IE is 5.2. I have the newest installer for OS X. I quit all programs, enter the administrator password when asked, step through the license and agreement, and initiate the install, and am then told that "'Internet Plug-Ins' could not be found." Now, Internet Plug-Ins is there, and is easy to find. It's System/Library/Internet Plug-Ins as it ought to be, and there are of course several others in the various localized System trees and such places.

Has anyone recently installed this? Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Try running IE in the background and then starting the installer.
