making bootable mac osx cd

i got this 600mhz ibook that can't connect to a lan over ethernet.

first i thought that the system (appletalk) is damaged but now i think maybe the ethernet-port itself is damaged.

i would like to make a bootable copy of my system (10.1.5/g4 cube) on a cd.

this way i could start the ibook up with a system i know is ok.

questions:

-how can i make a bootable mac os x cd?

-can i take a cube system to boot an ibook?

thanks a bunch

I wish Apple would include some kind of utility to help users create a bootable OS X CD, or at least help the people at Roxio to implement this feature in Toast.

There is a product called <a href="http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=15196&db=mac"; target="_blank">BootCD</a>. I have no experience with this utility and would be interested in your feedback if you decide to try it.

    Yes. Here's a good walkthrough:

I see no problem with it, although the school district I'm at has no OS X clients except for the support staff, so I've never had to use one build for different machines.

    Hope this helps!

Check out Bombich software's Carbon Copy Cloner (http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html) for info on making bootable OS X volumes.

As for the Cube system...do you mean can you use a Cube's system CD to boot off? Sure...Though another thing to try is to boot the iBook FROM another computer's HD via Firewire:

-Plug a 6-to-6 Firewire cable from the iBook to another machine (Cube?) and boot up the iBook. Once its booted, turn on the other machine and immediately hold down 't' to go into Target Disk Mode.

-The other machine's HD should load into the iBook. Go to System Prefs and select it as the Startup disk and reboot the iBook.

Write back if you want more info.
