I don't think the companies in question care what "articles" think unless it works out poorly for them, and it didn't for Nintendo.
Have you forgotten history? They ended up letting in two major competitions, in the case of Sony one that developed two consoles that destroyed them in sales, and a third that is technically far superior to anything that Nintendo has ever developed.

Nintendo makes all of the money… and has 2x the sales of either of those companies… while continuing to bring innovation after innovation to the industry and one-upping (…pun unintended) their copyist competitors.
I realize I'm not a representative of the company, but I'm going to say that I'm pretty dang sure they don't give a crap about what they may or may not have "let happen".

2x the sales? Can you provide some details of this?
Also, what innovation are Nintendo bringing to the market?

No, Sony wouldn't have, it gave them the ability release console after console that beat Nintendo in every way.
The PS1, and PS2 sales speak for themselves. The features, and games on the PS3 speak for themselves. All the people that own a Wii and only have Wii Sports also speak for themselves.

Yeah, their last generation console sold roughly twice as many Xbox 360 or PS3.
Also, what innovation are Nintendo bringing to the market?
You're joking, right?

Yep, you're joking.
Wii: 99 million
PS3: 77 million
Xbox: 76 million
No, they sold under twice as many
Please product game sales
Nope, please provide the innovation that Nintendo is bringing?
