i read on my ibook documentation, that after the 5th time i change the dvd region of my computer it will lock... is there anyway to avoid this??? since im studying in mexico, but im from other country, and have diferent dvd regions
Yes the region lockes after the fifth change, but there are programs to reset it. Unfortunatly those programs only work 3 times.
Anyone know what firmware lockes up and where it is? (In the computer or on the DVD drive)? If the DVD drive is what lockes up, you should be able to buy a second DVD drive for the second reagon and just switch drives.
As far as Im aware its the DVD drives firmware that locks the region after 5 changes.
There is a download called RegionX that supposedly sorts this problem but there has been little feedback from users of this software
Can't say if it is workable or not, but I do know for sure that if you use it and things go wrong you may well have invalidated your computers warranty
Anyone here have any feedback or using RegionX or other similar products?

i use RegionX from Time to Time. It works pretty well, give it a try.
just google for "dvd firmware update", and you should come up with a site that has region free firmwares for most drives...might need a PC to flash it, and also need region-free software, which I'm not sure if the Apple DVD player is...

Have you had probs with the software?
now i got a cube running mac os 10.2 (no more classic) and would like to do it again. is there anything special i have to look out for?
...and is this legal?
i used all kind of apps and firmware-flashs with my g4 and mac os 9.x - and it worked well with me.

not so far, no.
NOTE: you got to have an RPC-1 DVD-Drive to work with Region X successfully
Region X is easy to install. just a .pkg which installs Region X in /Applications.
After that, you just open it and set your region. very simple, yet powerful.
Info about RPC-1 and -2 Drives is available from my link above.
