Groveling is groveling. Apple needed to show the Chinese govt. that they bow to their power to shut them down if they want. Apple apologized to its customers over various screw ups but they never groveled to them. Apple was made to bow to the power of the Communist party and their power to destroy their Chinese business at a whim. They showed them that a few directives and Apple's business in China is at an end. Apple have never done this before this in any way, shape or form. It was also the Chinese way of saying to the US "we own you, you will bow to us".
Part posturing part wanting to make a US company sing and dance to show how important China is. It's a partnership and China wanted Apple to acknowledge how important it is. So who gives a f? If the apology is getting good publicity that's a big win. Apple should respect the Chinese market and do whatever it takes to make it a mutually beneficial relationship. Same thing in India and Brazil. These are huge markets that Apple will need to have a strong presence in to move the needle again.
Anyone dumb enough to think the black market can move even 20% of the product that legitimate means can is a stone cold moron. People just need to realize China has a huge inferiority complex from years and years of being exploited and considered a third world country. To them power plays like this are signs of how far they've come so let them have their win....as long as Apple can move product that's the main thing.
