Apple would be extremely foolish to debut a new Mac Pro architecture that isn't built around SSD as the primary storage medium. A storage subsystem hanging off the PCI Express bus by the way.

I'm not sure about built around, but it should be designed to easily accommodate such things. It would not surprise me if they tried to move toward 2.5" drives or whatever the imac is using today, as Apple likes to share parts wherever possible. Regarding SSDs specifically, they have displaced a lot of internal RAID solutions for temporary storage and scratch data. This will be especially true when we have the latest SATA in the mac pro as a 512GB  6Gb/s SATA ssd can be a better solution than multiple HDDs in a RAID configuration with an internal RAID card. Typically with those you would keep a large amount of free space on the drives so as to maintain performance. You need some with SSDs, but not as much.
