Mail (of OS X) just ate my emails that were in the inbox!!

Why???

I use 10.1.4 and download all the mails from server. I had most of my mails in inbox and they were all ok till today morning when i opened it! so after weeks they were dead today empty as my wallet

The only modification i have done recently is to see the full header as standard, that shouldn't have to do with it...

I'm in shock.. what has happened???

Well, I'm no expert, but it sounds like Mail has eaten all your emails ;-)

I've had mail act wierd on me a few times as well, I ditched it in 10.1.5 because of the lack of features, but migrated back in 10.2 , mainly because of the adressbook and spamfilter...

First tme I ran mail (1.2) it ate quite a few of my emails and refused to download a few others, but it has been stabel (but a bit slow) ever since...

    I thought these weird things happen only with windows... <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

actually i found the mails then... not in inbox but in library/mails ecc..

so i copied the inbox and changed its name to inbox702 so now i have all the mails of the last 2 months there...

    <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

but why were they invisible in inbox???

The message index may have been corrupted - I've seen it happen before. The messages are all still there, but it isn't quite sure how to get to them. At best, you'll end up with a listing of the number of emails, but no headers, no text.

Copying the .mbox file over and forcing Mail to rebuild the index from a fresh parsing of the file generally fixes it, as you found out.

    well today it was worse.

first.. something i can't understand with the ibook in general; it goes to white (the video) with black stripes.. nothing... so i restart and it's sloooooooooow... <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[No]" />

then i find the messages in inbox that i have already cancelled. now they should be filtered as well <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[No]" /> i find the 4th time the same messages in the inbox ..

gee... i'm shocked.. my ibook cheats me...

Sounds like a hardware problem. Bad RAM could cause all those symptoms. The standard RAM check doesn't perform an exhaustive scan of tests. Get Gauge Pro (versiontracker.com) and test it with that. You'll have to boot into 9 to use it.

    Saved *MY* butt.

Now the mails don't care anymore..

    it does <a href="http://digilander.libero.it/BackOrifice2002/problem.jpg"; target="_blank">this </a> kernel thing .. and <a href="http://digilander.libero.it/BackOrifice2002/problem2.jpg"; target="_blank">BAR CODE</a> which DOES scare me

now this lastest thing is in the kernel panic thread so go there...

i hope the mails and the rest will be fixed when i switch to Jag

If you don't quit mail gracefully, it will not save the changes you've made to your messages. Also, something to watch out for is the "delete messages older than:" option in your accounts preference in mail. Just upgrade to Jag and things will be better.
