other than setting the Airport to DHCP, and making sure that your laptop has your airport card as the selected network port, i'm not sure what else there is to do.

anyone with Airport experience out there able to lend a hand here?

If you need help then you have to give more info. If you want to sort it yourself then check the online support at apple.com including the "setting up airport networks" pdf.

    questions:

can you connect directly to the internet with the ethernet cable without the airport?

can you use the airport config app if you connect the powerbook to the airport with the ethernet cable?

are you running jaguar with the newer snow airport? If so you have to update the firmware. There is a technote on <a href="http://www.apple.com"; target="_blank">www.apple.com</a> saying you have to reset the airport and connect immediately with airport config

I am connected to it.... but for some reason cant configure it? (i am connected to if for shits and giggles, i am currently using the ethernet connection to go online..

yes I am running 10.2 and yes i have a "snow" base station

if you have the snow white basestation you should be under warrenty....call apple...they will walk you through a hard reset of the basestation (unplug basestation...stick paperclip in hole by power, plug back in, remove paperclip after one second...etc, etc...don't no the exact steps so you should call them)....then you should use airport utility to configure the station to 4.0.6....firmware 4.0.4 (which came with my iMac 800 in feb) doesn't work with 10.2....need 4.0.6 if you are using 10.2 and white basestation (i think it is in 10.2, but doesn't automatically replace 4.0.4 with install and archive)....apple tech is very helpful with this problem....g

Looks like you have the same problem I had. I can't find the link to the instructions I followed right now (I'll post again when I find it) but the gist of it is:

You need to reset the airport by unplugging for 30 seconds. When it restarts you will be able to access it with the admin utility. If the utility finds the airport then it will automatically update the airport and bob's your uncle.

ok, it doesnt work... like i hook up the ethernet to the BS and try and use the assistant... it says it cant configure it.... <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" /> damn this really sucks

ok, i switched the cables so its in the WAN port instead of the LAN port but after I set it up it still doesnt work....

    any like usual troubleshooting ideas?

If you click on the AirPort status bar in the menubar, do you see something like "Apple Basestation asdfg?" Select that before you try to configure the basestation if you can see it. I just bought one of those basestations the other day.

If all else fails, try a hard reset:

    <a href="http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106602"; target="_blank">http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106602</a>;

    and reloading the basestation's aoftware:

I dono, I sent the Apple rep at BC an email..... We'll see where that gets me... who knows.. maybe he will come up to the room and help me set it up... too bad I dont have a <a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=7&t=001695#000003"; target="_blank">computer</a> to use it with ...... <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

Edit: well it seems that after just leaving the ABS plugged in for a day it worked (with a friend of mine's computer...of course AFTER my computer became out of commision...) but it also seems that it caused problems with my floor's network... I got a call from BC IT saying that i need to disconnect it... they also offered to step me through the process of setting it up when my computer gets fixed.....

We'll see... I'll post the instuctions they give me online when i get around to doing it...

the best part is if my computer HADn't of broken... I probably would have never gotten the ABS to work....weird
