It can connect to any web server via a browser, and it can check email from the local mail server.
It can't connect to a file server via the "connect to server" dialogue ... it immediately snaps up an error message saying "An error has occured. Error: -36"
This machine had not had the BSD layer installed during a new install, as the guy was never going to have need of the dev tools. This was the only thing turned off.
Anyway, Rendezvous was broken on this machine, and, looking for a fix, I discovered on the web that the BSD utilities were necessary for it to work. Installed 'em, Rendezvous up and running.
Servers still not working.
So I did a clean damn install preserving old users and it fixed it.

when you say you can't connect to anything, you mean network wise, internet wise, your own HD?
what were you running before OS wise? what hardware do you have? how are you connected?
diagnosing problems over the 'net is tough, you need to be as specific as possible or no one will even try.
Right, It's a 2 x 500MHz (ie not Quicksilver) G4 running 10.2, and a new installation on top of 9.2.
It has internet access but it doesn't have any ability to connect to servers.
All of this is over ethernet.
It's being served IP addresses by a Win2000 DHCP server in the biggidy basement.
It's upsetting me.
