I am hoping to use my old Performa 6300 CD as a web server...

It is running OS9, is connected to my router, has a ethernet card installed and everything yet no matter what I do it will not connect via PPPoE to the DSL

I am using MacPoET to connect to my Mindspring DSL service but it gives me an error:

"MacPoet could not establish or maintain a PPP over Ethernet session.

The server has termintated the session.

(Error ID = 7)"

the computer connects to my network just fine and I am able to share files (the performa is connected to my routers, whtich in turn is bridged to my Airport)

HELP ME PLEASE!

thank you,

Alex Cutler

    Rev. Cutler,

    Give me more info...

I assume that Mindspring DSL is ultimately Earthlink.net and if so then most likely you would be connecting via MacPoet software.

Make sure that your TCP/IP is set to PPP(oE) and that you have domain set to Mindspring.net (.com or earthlink.net). Try connecting now. If you still have problems then first turn off your DSL modem and leave it off for two minutes. Then restart your computer and turn the modem back on also. you should first have POWER and LINK lights as green. Once you get to desktop you should get READY light green and yellow blinking light for ACTIVITY. Launch your MacPoet or other software that you use to connect. Under OS 9 my MAcPoet gets finicky and I have complained numerous times to them at MacWorld Expo NY for the last three years. They have yet provided further changes. Now under OS X I used CONNECT and it works every time the way it suppose to!

    Ciao

p.s. : I forgot...make sure that under yourTCI/IP Configure window, at bottom right is OPTIONS button. Select OPTIONS and make sure that your TCP/IP is ACTIVE checkmarked.

Maby I am talking through my butt, but don't 68K machines need an extension to support PPPoE? I seem to remember an extension for that on an old Performa 578.

The 6300 is a PowerPC machine.

Oh, my gosh. I can't belive I did that. That's it, I need to stop giving advice on older computers.

    EDIT: I got the 6300 confused with my Quadra 650 somehow. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">
