iPhone owners spend 55% more time on their phone than Android users

New smartphone usage data shows that iPhone owners spend an additional 26 minutes per day on Apple's handset more than the average Android device user.

Experian

While an Android smartphone owner spends an average of 49 minutes per day on their device, iPhone owners exceed that amount by 55 percent, according to usage data published by Experian this week. The average iPhone owner instead spends an hour and 15 minutes on their handset.

In addition to spending more time on their iPhone, Apple device owners also use their smartphone in very different ways from Android owners. For example, Android users are more likely to spend their time making phone calls, while iPhones lead in texting, email, taking pictures, and social networking.

Android users, meanwhile, devote a greater share of their smartphone usage time to browsing the Web. Talking and texting remain the most popular uses of both iPhones and Android handsets, though iPhone users are evenly split between percentage of time talking and texting.

The data comes from Experian Marketing Services' Simmons Connect mobile and digital panel, which includes opt-in panelists who have responded to the Simmons National Consumer Study and National Hispanic Consumer Study.

So this survey is ONLY of the Android users that actually use their devices, right? Because 90% of the devices in use are iOS devices (across the board), and since Android has shipped, what 60% of the market, that means there's no way they're spending less than 1 second using it on average across the board.

The percentages of difference are so small they seem insignificant.

Damn dude, you're becoming that stressed out guy in the group that has a nervous breakdown and puts a knife to a woman's neck and says 'stay away, I'm gonna kill her'.

It's just a forum. We're only talking about phones, we're not discussing scientific theories (those guys are brutal).

We just can't tell whether these categories are statistically significantly different, given the data at hand.

If it is economic significance, however, that you're referring to, a 55% difference in the aggregate surely makes a massive difference to a service provider's capex spending plans.

en they do use their phones, usage is similar.  Interesting that it shows Androiders tend to browse the web more while iPhoners tend to text more.  The part AI is highlighting is that Apple users are spending more time on their devices.  1 hour 15mins is quite a bit more than @45 mins.

The conclusion is fairly obvious. Either Android users, or their devices, are far more efficient than their Apple counterparts (sorry, couldnt resist)

I use my Android phone even less now that I have Glass.

(before I get flamed for posting here; I develop for both Android and Glass using OSX 'cause it is a great development platform)

So iPhone users spend an average of 9 minutes per day browsing the web and Android users spend 7.84 minutes?  That doesn't seem to fit with overall stats reported by web analytics firms, which put the iPhone way ahead, don't they?

If I read this right, Androiders spend more time visiting websites but we all know iOS users get way more ad impressions.

I also assume "hacking" is in the "other" grouping because we know Androiders love playing with their "open" devices. /s

Do they count the times when the Android phone's battery is dead? Any time after 8pm, judging by my Android-using friends :p

Apple shouldn't go after those buyers.

That's their fault for not writing and then sideloading a java app on an SD card that will kill apps at certain times of the day to clean up the background processes¡ Seriously though, Android does handle that pretty well. Not as intelligently as iOS does but less of the Wild West free-for-all that WebOS was.I don't think their vocal users want it more intelligent, either. Probably less intelligent if anything.

These AI statements constitute one of the most outrageous outward signs of Apple fanboyism madness !

It is thereby demonstrated that the suspicious intimate companionship developed with Apple devices twists judgment (which demonstrates how dangerous these things can be for mental health).

Wake up ! Open your eyes ! Consider the reality of Foxconn’s plant ! Starting at the age of five, Chineese children are forced to work for Foxconn, 48 Hours a day, and they have to pay Foxconn for this ! They eat gravel ! Fifty of them commonly live in a shoe box in the bottom of a lake !

AppleStore employees have to stand pouring rain, just because greedy employer Apple wants to save the cost of fixing the leakage !

Apple financial situation is so dramatic that they have to borrow money to pay the dividend !

Apple engineers are unable to master true multitasking ! And enable displaying more than one window at once ! Isn't that pathetic ?

Apple prefer to pay taxes in socialist countries like France (where arrogant local lazzy employees (natives) live on other people hard work), rather than paying taxes to the US government !

Let me tell ya, I have to make heroic efforts to stay within the limits of British decency (pretty strict, as you may know), as well as (incidentally) the ones governing ban on this site. Suffice it to say that I suspect you are nothing but an active Apple lobbyist, and I will report this to the Posts Misconducts Resource Center (PMRC), so that you end up in the place where you should be trapped (the Apple ecosystem, you know, the one where « the guy with the horns and pointed stick conducts his business », as F. Zappa quotes).

    I think that's all. Finished now !
