Powerbook and Projector problem

When I connect my powerbook to a projector, all I see is the desktop pattern ... no icons etc.
I'm using 10.2.2.

powerbooks automatically set themselves up to do "montitor spanning"
therefore it's treating the projector as a second monitor, and what you're seeing is ANOTHER desktop.
what you want to do is go to your display control panel and set it up to mirroring.

It is .... the projector is at a college I teach in twice a week.
