Major problem: PRAM failed all tests; system loses track of startup folder to boot, OS9 wont recognize my hard drive.

Everything was fine last week, but now, if I crash in OS9, it cant find the system folder upon startup. Booting from the OS9 CD brings me to the desktop, but the hard drive isnt recognized.

My time is off frequently, could a dying battery afflict the pram?

I'm afraid to turn it off now. The only way to get back into OSX is to reinstall the system software from the CD.

oh crud, i just ran across something that might be like this last week.

check at apple's sight for "power management" settings. there's some wacked out key combos you can use to reset this, and it can fix odd problems like this.

if you haven't found it by monday, send me a private message and i'll look it up. i have it at the office.

The computer now is pushing two and a half years old.

Could a dying battery cause the PRAM tests to malfunction?

I reformatted and all my problems are gone, even the pram problems.
