Cleaning the screen

Hey hey all... This certainly isn't a 'genius' calibur question, but how do I go about cleaning the screen on my iBook? I don't want to mess anything up as it seems like it might absorb some of the cleaning agent... My manual only talks about cleaning the case and online support says read the manual. Any Suggestions?

Er... I use Windolene on the screen of my TiBook, and no complaints.

    I know I shouldn't.

Yep! I third that statement! Works fine for me on my TiPb too... just make sure you use a soft cloth and there are no gritty bits on it.

I use the klearscreen that Apple mentions in their document.

Its available at Apple retail stores and online from several vendors.

U can go to most computer shops and buy an optical glass filter cleaner. It works very well and it is not expensive either

Use a good cloth though, no tissue paper.

I heard that LCD screens should only be cleaned with agents that don't contain amonia or alcohol. So I was a sucker and bought the cleaning kit that apple sells at their website.

I use a cloth from my photography kit that is used to clean lenses. Works great, very gentle Ilford makes a nice orange cloth, or you could search for the "Tiger Cloth"... I believe Light Impressions carries it.

    One suggestion...

Do NOT and I repeat do NOT spray Windex directly onto your LCD screen.

I did this to my dads Pismo and somewho some of the liquid got "sucked" up in behind or inside or the display and created big wet spots. Eventually they went away, but were replaced my mildew.

Ive learned my lesson, and now spray the cloth instead of the the screen...

iKlean for me.. run down to the Apple Store, Westfarms and pick me up some wipes. Probably not the cheapest solution out there, but I figure my 17" LCD wasn't cheap, so I shouldn't be cheap with it.

DO NOT use any standard household cleaning agent on an LCD screen!

All household cleaning agents ,including windex, will leave a residue on the screen which can build up over time.

To be on the safe side, buy a MicroFibre cleaning cloth (you can get these cheaply, a lens cleaning cloth is good) and dampen it lightly with clean water then clean screen with mininal pressure.

Use a dry Microfibre cloth to wipe and finish.

Yeah, definetely only use stuff that is recommended for LCD screens! Normal household cleaners will dissolve the plastic screen over time as well.

i just use the cloth that came with my cinema display. i think i might have tried a lightly dampened (with water) 100% cotton t-shirt if i had something that just wiping didn't solve

For cleaning screen use a cotton cloth, but make sure that you may not use any liquid. Because it make spots on the screen. Just scrub it with light hands.
