Getting a 30 gig Maxtor HD to work as slave in G3
I just took my uncle's old 30 gig ATA drive out of his G4/450. It was the only drive inside the computer when it was being used and it shipped with the computer, so obviously it was the master drive. I wanted to put it into my B&W G3 400 as a slave, copy all my files to it, then make it the master again and use it as the boot drive, toss my old 12 gigger' out the window, and continue to use my IBM 40 gig drive for audio.
Problem:
There are no jumpers that shipped on the Maxtor drive from my uncle's computer therefor i dont know how to go about turning it into a slave, even if it DID have jumpers, it doesnt have a diagram on it like my IBM drive about how to configure it for a different mode.
In a nut shell....
Maxtor drive -> slave
Copy my files to it (while booted from a CD)
Slave Maxtor -> back to master
Anyone?

Anyway, onto the help.

B&W you need to check to see if you have the rev.1 or rev. 2 motherboard. The rev. 1 had problems with slave drives, necessitating the use of an ATA controller card for the extra drive. XLR8 Your Mac had excellent info on determining which revision you have, plus what to do to add extra hard drives for each. Something like the Sonnet Tempo ATA/133 would do nicely, or perhaps one of their older cards like the Tempo ATA/66.
Heh... i bet you've been waiting to be able to do that back to me

't was actually in the spur of a moment I think it's quite funny, this phrase, and do not worry, I am not german.
Rev 2. I do have 2 drives in my B&W G3 400 already, the stock 12 gig as the boot drive and a 30 gig for audio. I want to put the 60 gig in as the audio drive and start using the 30 gig as the boot drive (toss the 12 gig 5400 rpm to the curb)
