Recording applescripts in OSX?

The script editor refuses to record anything in OSX on my system. I've been told that the new beta applescript editor fixes that, but I haven't had any luck with that either.
Any suggestions?

Ah. I think the "recording" that people have spoken of is the new gui scripting function. I'll have a go at this soon....
