"One experience, on every device for everything important in life". Is it just me? I don't want "one experience on every device" as I use each device differently for different purposes.
It's sad when expressing a basic desire like having a retina display on the MBA (to replace my current MBA) gets me labeled a Samsung fanboy. That won't stop me from upgrading my Windows laptop to an ATIV 9 when it is released with Windows 8.1 this fall and enjoying what I had hoped to enjoy with a MBA upgrade. I still hold hope that Apple will eventually follow Samsung with a retina MBA. I guess that sort of devotion makes me an Apple fanboy.
well, then i hope you take your own advice from one of your posts two weeks ago:
"What sad, meaningless lives some must lead to spend time on a site dedicated to products they don't use. Must be some form of dementia preventing normal mental processes."
Worst part related to Apple, for me, is rabidity and hysteria of so many Apple followers. There are fanatics on every platform, but somehow it seems Apple has more. Is it result of Apple elitist marketing approach earlier on, or some sort of inferiority complex rooted during Apple's struggling years - or something completely different - I cannot say; but number of rude smartasses I am encountering here is, in general, higher than any other forum I frequent.
My ass can do long division but still has problems with reading, I blame the school system. How was that, I'm still learning but I think I can get to the rank of major ass if I try really hard.
And thanks for the news flash on Office 365 being "widely praised." Last I heard laptop users (and that's the growing segment of computers) don't like to be somewhere they can't access or edit their documents due to poor or no Internet.
I bought an Office 365 account and it allows me to download the latest version of Office (2013) onto 5 machines, so it isn't just restricted to editing documents online.
My wife had some work on Access and at the price to get a single licence of Office with Access I could subscribe to Office 365 for 6 years. It felt like a good deal to me.
Well until I can have a tablet with OSX on it to run desktop apps I'll settle with Windows 8.1.
Right, because tablets are just "toy computers"—you can't do any actual work on them. :P Maybe that's your experience.
As for me, since getting my iPad, I've used it at least 2x as much as my MacBook. My 'Book is my "home" computer, but my iPad goes with me literally everywhere. I just toss it in my bag in the morning and head out the door. The only thing I really need my computer for (i.e. my iPad doesn't have the capacity/capability) is photo editing; for nearly everything else, my iPad is fully capable.
I thought we'd see the start menu. But really there's no difference. Lower left hand corner still brings up the start screen - it's just now there's a 'button' to show the user how to do that. What a mess.
No, really. They brought "back" the "start menu". Only that it is now a flat menu which appears on... behold.. "right-click" on the "start-button". Well, it was there in Win 8 as well. Now they have made it far more useful and functional by adding a couple of "shutdown" options there. So yes, AI is right. Technically speaking, they "brought back" the "start menu"! /s

Putting words in someones mouth doesn't mean that person actually said them, please tell me you know this. I also have an iPad and enjoy it very much. However, I can't run Photoshop with pen support, Netbeans to review and debug my programs while taking the train to work, MySQL, Python, Java, PHP, Perl, C++ compilers, .net support, full MS Office which I need for specialized Visual Basic calculations. The list goes on but I think you get the point. I don't see why this is so hard for you to understand, I like having a tablet that can run full desktop applications, done, point, that's it. Saying you can do everything with your iPad still doesn't give me what I want or need. If Apple made a tablet that could run OSX, I would be using it, they don't so a Windows 8 tablet is the only other solution. A solution that I don't mind by the way, just becasue you all hate it won't diminish my productivity any less.
So what explains Microsoft's stock rise (yesterday it was up over 2% whereas Apple was down over 1%)? Not to long ago MS stock was near or above 52 week highs. Apple is moving towards its 52 week lows. I don't get it.

Oh that's because Microsoft makes the best software in the world. Apple can only dream of having such talented individuals working for them. Windows 8.1 only proves without a doubt that Apple has lost the OS wars. The shear amount of technology that is in this OS could never be duplicated by anyone, especially Apple. They should just role over and die, excepting defeat.

I can't say how much that I'm happy for you... and for MS having you as a happy customer and adoption evangelist!
Now.. for the rest of the population that has been force-fed Windows for the last few decades, and DOESN'T do development (on a sub-par OS I might add)... what does MS have to offer THEM at this point in time? Actually, syncing is pretty good with Win phones and tablets... but what else?
Bolded: you do know that the majority of development using the above bolded languages, which are not only natively installed, but also used pretty exclusively on Macs these days.. even by Apple's nemesis Google? The second platform is a Linux box. BTW: you doing that on a IIs server or WAMP? Having fun I guess.
Also... doesn't it ever get to you that whenever you see Photoshop being demoed or a tutorial, it's always on a Mac? You're missing the hint there.

You must have a reading comprehension problem. As stated, I do use Apple products. Try a little harder to understand next time and you won't be so lost.

No, that would be predictable. What would be truly bold is if Microsoft abandoned the disaster of monolithic failure that is the Windows Registry. Worst design decision they ever made.
Despite people not liking Microsolf, imo they have the best ecosystem after Apple because they offer a complete set from PC, phones, tablets to gaming. The only mistake they made is not allowing old school desktop on PC's. They are correcting this ATM, but the damage has been done. They are missing windows 8 Tv's with Xbox integration.
Huh!? Microsoft doesn't have any sort of unified ecosystem, their PC, Phone, tablets and gaming platforme can't talk to each other and doesn't share de same software based and developers tools.
