CDs not recognised ... chapter2

Well I thought Defiant's suggestion had fixed it .. but apparently not.

To recap, when I start the mac, if I insert a CD or CDrom nothing shows on the desk top. If I restart the computer (dual 800) the CD appears. Everything's fine after that ... it's just the first attempt.

Any suggestions?

looks like you've got to do this [quote] delete everything in your Caches folder (~/Library/Caches/)

again.

Thanks ... will try again this afternoon. While you're there, what does resetting parameter ram do?

I think the last time I got lucky ... 'cos it definitely doesn't work even with cache files deleted. Disk doctor can see the CD and its contents ... it just doesn't show on the desk top.

It's gotta be something simple 'cos it works flawlessly on a restart.

Yes that's checked and system profiler recognises it.

Just tried it again this morning with an audio CD. Nothing .. restart and there it is.

Yeah it's unchanged ... could it be something to do with device ID?

I think I've fixed it. I reinstalled some stuff from the second Jaguar CD and it seems ok. One CD didn't work but that could be corrupted. I guess something got lost in the various updates I've been doing over recent weeks.
