More iPod weirdness

My 10gig iPod is fat32 formatted, but werid stuff is happening...

A lot of my mp3 files in the F00-F19 files are getting really weird names... chkdsk in windows keeps on finding errors on the disk, and keeps on fixing them... I can recover my lost mp3s in the found.000 folder that appears on the ipod after I run chkdsk, but this is annoying as I have to redo everything quite often. itunesdb obviously keeps a record of a file which isn't there anymore, so I have to erase the entire ipod and put all my songs back on. Am I the only one with this problem? would I be better off formatting my ipod as hfs+ and hoping that it isn't a hdd problem?

My iPod is only a couple of weeks old, so I guess I could get it changed if it's an HDD problem...

Any ideas anyone?

but you have to start first. tell us what kind of ipod, what kind of compter, etc.. you have; i.e. all stuff that might be important to us.

the same iPod I had in the other post that you so kindly linked to Defiant

It's a 10gig iPod for mac that I made into an iPod for windows by updating. It runs 1.2.2 atm.

I get the impression that my HDD is kinda screwed up... things like that don't happen on healthy hard disks... <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

pumpkin: I'm mad. But I'm gonna help you anyways.

the newest update for your windows iPod is <a href="http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120119"; target="_blank">here</a>.

a tutorial to use a mac iPod on a Pc iPod is <a href="http://q.queso.com/mt/mt-comments.cgi?entry_id=1085"; target="_blank">here</a>.

It also covers to completely convert your iPod into a PC iPod.

and <a href="http://www.ipodlounge.com/downloads_win_01.asp"; target="_blank">here</a>'s a page with downloads for your windows ipod.

follow the second link. the solution which is explained there should help you. you're probably gonna have to delete your iPod again.

lol Defiant... I might as well add you to my icq list and we can talk about it there

anyway I think you misunderstood what I mean, or I misunderstood the contents of your second link...

the screwed up mp3 names are not a result of bad tagging but because the filesystem is misbehaving as far as I can see... I have seen no references in your links that explain how to fix that

my solution would be to erase your iPod, formatting it completely and making him like new. there shouldn't be any misbehaving with the filesystem if you delete it completely, should there ?

I know... that's what I thought. And that's what scares me

I've reformatted it various times and each time I end up with some little files with screwed up names... that's why I think there might be some defect... <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

a defect hard-drive does not result in screwed-up names. definitely not.

well what does then? if it happens again and again could it be musicmatch doing it? I doubt it, as it uses windows to access the firewire disk and write onto it, and windows writes to my other fat32 disks ok without screwing up the names also the fact that eventually the names **** up on their own even without syncing the ipod leads me to believe there's something wrong with it
