Anyone using m-audio's sonica with their Mac?

I've got it plugged into my minidisc player to record digital audio from my Mac and to pass audio through to my hi-fi. The problem is a persistent crackle and occasional digital noise that sends the input to overload.



I'm just about to check it out and wondered if anyone else had seen this behaviour?



I'm on Jaguar, in case that matters, which has a seperate driver. I had a lock up shortly after installing the driver and then the sonica wasn't recognized till after another restart so I'm thinking that's the cause.



I might re-install if I can't find any on-line help.

    Decided to just cut to the chase and re-install. Seems to have done the trick. At the very least it's a thousand times better and if it is still happening it's doing it so little that I think I may just be imagining it.



    btw iTunes + a proper stereo rocks!

    Damn, it slowly built up and now it's back in force.



    Worrying about bursts of static wrecking your speakers and your ears does not rock!

    Could it be a bad cable? Ok this may sound odd but I have a small practice amp and I sometimes hook it up to the speaker jack on my iMac. Its really loud Anyways I had a bad cable and the least bit of movement would make this horrible crackle pop noise, and I do mean the least bit, if I turned it up too loud the base would make it vibrate and crackle. I could see nothing at all wrong with the cable but I had ruled out everything else so I went and got another one and the problem went away.

    I've had similar experiences with bad cables/loose connections but this is a optical digital sp/dif connection so I would expect cable problems to be more of the all or nothing variety.



    But I did think of this and have tried two different cables into two different optical in ports. I also switched between the three different USB ports on the iMac and I'll be trying a different USB cable tonight.



    No joy with any of these so further suggestions are welcome.



    The Jaguar driver is version 1.1d1 so I'm looking in its direction as a possible cause but you can never rule out simple mechanical failure.

    I rebooted without my D-Link USB dongle and MSFT trackball plugged in and it hasn't reoccured yet. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />
